Normal vs heavy duty FRONT coils

Hi Guys,

Need some advice and I cant seem to find a similar post to answer my question.

I've got a 4 inch TJM lift in my 2005 4.8 and I'm going for Ironman suspension 2 inch lift. I don't want to get heavy duty rear coils as it's a daily driver.

On the front coils, I need some advice on whether to go for the heavy duty or normal coils as I've got a TJM bumper. It's very important to me that the troll stands level, so that's why I'm leaning towards the heavy duty front coils.

Will it be necessary to go for the heavy duty front coils to level it out? Does anyone have experience with ride quality on Heavy duty front coils?

Fhilip, I would go for the heavy duty ones in front.

I had the normal 2" coils in front, but with the heavy front bumper the Patrol was a bit nose down. Swoped it for the heavy duty ones and now its standing level. I did not notice a differance in ride comfort

Philip if you going to add a winch aswell then I would definitely go the heavy coil spring route

Did you have a winch as well or just the bumper? I'm not planning to go the winch route as the trol goes anywhere

Good to hear your opinion on the ride comfort as that's priority for me. Do you know what load rating coils you got in front? the 50 - 110 kgs? Do you have OME?

I would go for the normal ones, you have a petrol motor it is much lighter than the diesel motors.
If it is not level then just add those rubber spacers, they work great.
Your ride quality will be 10 times better with the normal coils.

Im not 100% sure which OME coils I have in front as the label was very faded and painted so could only see OME and not the rest of the numbers. They are thicker couls tho but dont know the rating.....

I also dont have a winch in front, just the bumper.

Compared to the standard suspention it rides quite a bit harder, but I have done a long Namibia trip and it was very comfortable and I was not tired at all from the long dirt roads

Hi Philip, I have the OME heavy duty on the front of my patrol and then progressive coils on the back, I have replacement bumpers front and back and a 9000lb winch on the front and I find the ride perfect

For interest sake, is there a difference in length, stiffness & load carrying ability between the front and rear coils?

Fanus, to be truthful I have no idea, I went for the progressive coils at the back so when I am not loaded it does not feel like I am riding a brick! But I also have airbags at the rear that I can inflate if I am loaded and towing to level out the back end
