A trouble free trip from DBN to JHB

Just for the sake of posting,

As part of my relocation from DBN back up to JHB ( :( ), I drove my rig up last weekend, quite heavily loaded with all sorts of tools and heavy things inside.

To be honest, the week before the drive I was an absolute stress ball, without having taken the thing out on the open road since I'd bought it, I was really really worried something bad was going to happen mid trip.

Well all my worries were for nothing! Cruised at between 100 and 110 km/h the whole way without a hitch or stutter. What a pleasure!

The two negative though:
I got very very tired and uncomfortable towards the end of the trip - that seat is not comfortable at all! Cant work out what the problem exactly is, it might be that it doesn't go far back enough which I find weird.

And, the speedo over reads quite a lot - 105km/h on the GPS is just over 120km/h on the speedo.

I calculated I did 6.2km/l which is great, however, I fear the speedo over reading may make these cons numbers better than they are?

Anyways, glad its up there now. Now I can get it to Graham to give a once over.

Your speedo overreads and your odo meter under reads if you have bigger tires

Mine over reads 10kph but its got 315 tyres on.I cant complain about the seat,so maybe there is adjustment problems on yours

My speedo under-reads by about 15-20km/h at 120, but my odo is just about spot on with 32" tires (one size up from standard).

Wonder why you find the seat uncomfortable, mine is great. But I guess each person is different.

When you drive long distance again do a simple test of covering 100km on your GPS and see how far you traveled axcording to the odometer, mine reads 7% less than the GPS with 33" tyres.

My speedo is almost spot on, about 2km/h faster than the GPS

Thanks guys, i.ll have to test out the odo reading with the gps soon. im on 31in tyres at the moment,standard i think?

ya, the uncomfortable seat is a little baffling. I can do ten hours easy in a landy defender, so why i struggled with this i dont know.

.... don't take this the wrong way.... but I remember when I was a young boy ( only a few years ago - 18 till I die ), I had a Walt Disney collection of books, and weirdly enough the one book was called " The Princess and the pea "..... where only a real princess would be able to feel a pea under 100 mattresses causing much discomfort......... now I'm not saying anything about princesses etc..... but maybe you are Patrol Royalty !!!!......

My previous Patrol had a seat where the foam had partly collapsed on one side, so sat lopsided which caused some discomfort. I propped it up from underneath with a piece of additional foam to fit my size better... was good from there!
