In my Land Rover I had the Melville & Moon seat covers and I was very happy with them. However I do think that the fabric that Takla use – and here I am referring specifically to the Cantech – is far more durable and hard wearing, without being any less comfortable. That said, at something close to R 20,000 it is not cheap to do the entire inside of a Patrol but I think it is probably worth it if you want to look after the vehicle and have it for a long time.

Perhaps, I am not sure. But the Cantech is remarkable stuff. You can scribble on it with a ballpoint pen and then clean it with lacquer thinners – with no negative effect on the Cantech. If I take a sheet of this stuff and I hold one end and you hold the other end and we both pull with all our strength, I promise you we will not be able to tear it. It is completely waterproof and yet it is also entirely comfortable to use being apparently, breathable. It includes a "lifetime warranty". I am not sure what exactly that means but I do know that they will repair or replace anything for as long as you own it. The other thing is that, unlike my Melville & Moon seat covers that were showing significant wear after just a few years of daily use (although I admit that they look damn nice and the side pockets et cetera something that I miss very much on the Takla product), the Cantech should outlast the vehicle. That is more than you can say for leather as well. Sure it is expensive but I think that if you take a long-term view of matters – as I do with this car – it probably constitutes value for money.

The full set is not only seat covers. It includes floor mats that go up the side of the tunnels et cetera as well as a full load bay, back door lining, and two utility bags. In 2013 it came to R 17,280, including VAT.

I also have the full set in Chuck, and I agree fully with all your sentiments. The Cantech stuff seems completely indestructible - mine looks like new! Oh wait... they did say not to use softener when you wash them, as it may affect the waterproofing

I bought mine in bits & pieces (seat covers first, then the floor mats & load bin liners). The latter bits were purchased at the annual LA Sport show and Takla offered me a nice "show price" as a result. I had it fitted at their factory in Kyalami where they customised while I waited to accommodate the air compressor's fitting.

Took the covers off the seats today to give them a wash. 30000km, 2 years, 3 teenagers, 6000 km namib trip and 1 epic river trip and the seats are still good as new.
