Warn/TJM/Ironman which Winch would you go for??
Hi guys, i'm looking at fitting a winch to the "Troll, I have a TJM bullbar and would like to hear of your experiences with any of these products. Warn is great but pricey - the other two... i'm not sure, I guess this is an item that is very seldom used, but when you need it it's got to work - also, what strength does one go for, the 12000 lb would probably be right for a vehicle of this mass. Needless to say, Chinese is not an option (bloody Rhino slayers) I have a suspicion that TJM might be assembled there - not sure.
Let me know your thoughts, cheers.

Tony
I my opinion i will go for a come up winch ....nothing wrong with warn but come up is in eldoraigne in centurion great price and great service .....a 9000 will be cool if you really get stuck use your strap and a snatch pulley lets hear the others opinion ....rather spend the extra money on a rope .....cables are not cool anymore

Re: Warn/TJM/Ironman which Winch would you go for??
I would install a Warn 900/9500 or 12000 , synthetic rope.
I'm not keen on ironman / TJM.
Not saying come-up / Kew etc are not options tho, very highly regarded,... but i just prefer the long history and build of a warn.
I have a Warn M8274 High Mount ,...after many many many years it still is regarded as the best winch ever... if i was to change to a low mount i would do the XD9500 Warn i think.

I would go with Warn - not that I have experience with the others.
In past 20 years I have had 3 warn winches, and only problems experienced were due to poor maintenance.

This reminds me of the days when you still gave junkmail a call to place an advert , and sometimes (ok most) the operator was a wee bit clueless, so instead of a "warn winch" being advertised a "worn wench" was advertised.

Only flippen problem with a winch is when you don't have one you always need one. I have had mine for 6 years and I have only used it to recover other people

I would agree with Tinus, I have two Come Up (KEW) winches on my landies (not that I have used them much, as landies NEVER get stuck!!!) but I do run the motors every now and again to keep everything lubed up. I also have a warn 9000lb on the patrol and have also not had any trouble with that either!

Re: Warn/TJM/Ironman which Winch would you go for??
At one stage I was thinking seriously of building a manually-operated winch. Did the whole design, got quotes on all the materials, but never got any further.
In seven years of 4x4ing, I have used a winch twice, and in neither of those cases would I not have been able to get out if I didn't have one.
Guess that means I'm not trying hard enough...
