I have heard that later 4.8s are more efficient, but not sure from when.
If this was more than marginal, I would have liked Nissan to add a brand relaunch to it to stem the high consumtion reputation that it has.

Be that as it may, it does not sound to me that your consumption is much worse than the 4.2TD if at all, though worse than the 3.0.

Mabe the feul mapping is different. ...thats about all ...that i can think of. As long as i get 5.5 to 6km per liter when driving on holiday iam happy when working hard in sand ect it goes to 2km per liter ......iam a happy camper.....

I thought about that. It is not entirely impossible. Especially for those with lift kits. The lifted vehicles do generally have worse consumption.
Peter, maybe you should do seem test? Drive with and without it.

It must be the bash-plate and the TC-skid plate - my consumption is slightly better than Clem's.

I know you were TIC
But higher clearance does increase drag. But I guess your bashplate is not enough of a spoiler

As far as breaking is concerned . I learned the hard way , or at least the vehicle in front of me did , 3 tonnes of patrol does not stop quickly . Driving thru jozi in december from witsand to vaalwater (yes I made it , respect to my oilburner ) a vehicle stopped dead infront of me , I couldnt change lanes nor break in time . Anyway the sedan was a write -off , my troll's bullbar had a small little scratch ! Thank goodness for the custom bullbar . I now know to keep a very respectfull distance .

Nick.... happy to hear you and the Patrol are ok and the passengers in the car infront too (I assume )

Here is where tyre choice in my opinion plays a HUGE roll in stopping the 3 ton mass of a Patrol. What tyres are on your Patrol??
