Re: Y61 Patrol for selling @R15,000.oo
I have been looking at that Nissan for well over a year now to use as spares for my truck, but unfortunately its from Germany and is a left hand drive with no papers. The garage owner refused my first offer of R15K but now I see he has decided it might have been the right amount. The wheels had been stolen and it was on bricks. He also said it was a 4 cylinder but I am sure its the old 6 cyl 2.8. as its so different from my 3.0 l. He told me he threw the engine away. In January this year I went to look at it again and he said he would put it on a hoist for me to examine the chassis for rust as that was my main concern, but when I thought about it, I figured it would be too complicated to change a lefty to suit mine.
I see he has put the front and bull bar back so he must be desperate to get rid of it. I think he will take R10 K and thats got to be good for David.
Just by the way. I have just returned from the Central Kalahari. One morning after stopping to view, I noticed the truck felt like it was in really really thick sand. I told my friend that I thought we had a flat tyre only to find that the wheels faced different directions. When I looked under the truck I was greeted by the steering rod arm that had ripped out of the tyre rod end. On examination, the threads in the tyre rod end were almost completely worn away and the steering rod arm did not look much better. A land cruiser pulled up and said there was a lodge about 37 K's away and they had a welding machine. I always keep lots of Pratelys with me and used the steel one on the stripped threads. After waiting the recommended time to dry, 1.5 hours, it got me all the way to the lodge, welded it and got back to SA. Just thought I would share this experience.

I think the bonnet scoop indicates a 4 cylinder. This is very similar to mine. If anyone buys it for parts then let me know I will take a bunch of stiff... fender flairs, etc. I would imagine that getting this on the road here would be impossible. LHD and foriegn plates... it would b eon SA plates if properly imp[orted. At the very least you would be up for import duties on the full book value...

Barry, that story is worth a thread all of its own.gupster wrote:...Just by the way. I have just returned from the Central Kalahari. Do not spare us such stories, please.
Do you have any idea how this happened?
If the thread was worn, is that the reason it came loose as well?

Re: Y61 Patrol for selling @R15,000.oo
Thanks Alex your right, I should put it in another thread. Unfortunately, I never took any pics at the time, but I will include a photo of how it is now. I had the toe in done before I did West of Africa last year and can only figure out the bad roads must have worn the threads out. I will add more on the other thread as what I had planned to do if the Pratleys failed. The Troll has always tracked correctly, except on the right hand roads from Angola and all the way up to Senegal.
Hi Steve. I dont know about SA 2.8 Patrols, but the European ones also have that air scoop. I had also noted, what I think was the vacuum cylinder, as being different to my 3.0. But I am sure Tinus will put me straight when he logs in again.
Kind regards
