Hey guys, remember my thread on the Madman issues I have been battling to sort out - and the "no care" attitude of Mynhardt & Co. at SAC??

Well thanks to Tinus who put me in touch with Brian from Landy on Line - now Madman - I have resolved the fluctuating water temp. issue! Yep, it was that tiny little black earth wire for the unit that was supposed to be earthed directly onto the engine block ( As all fitment centres have been trained to do) according to Brian - which was conveniently attached onto the body up there under the footwell where it's hard to find. All you guys said that it was more than likely an earthing issue, and I checked all earths from the battery, and any other straps I could find, but nothing helped, so I began to think that there was genuinely something wrong with my car, or all Patrols as SAC told me.
Saturday I made arrangements to meet with Brian, and he took a look and helped to locate the hidden away earth, and after I joined a longer wire to it, and earthed it directly to the block, there is no more changing temp. reading when I switch on lights, indicators, brake lights, fan etc.. etc.. -
So Mr. Mynhardt & Co. there is no problem with Patrols and Madman units as I was told by you when I brought it back the 3rd time, you just have no clue how to install the bloody things properly!!!

Ah, so nice when people can't do the basics and then start making all kinds of feeble, unquantified excuses. And while not being able to take care of the "basics", they charge top dollar.

The franchise you mentioned is punted and supported by a number of guys here, and evidently they've received good service. My experience with a 3.2L Diesel Hardbody taught me to stay clear of them. And that was "basics" as well. And I also had the problem that they refuse to take ownership of their work done (or not done!).

One area they deserve 10/10 is consistency - the bill is always more than what was anticipated!

In my view, anybody can make a mistake, but when it happen you need to resolve it - something these guys cannot do.

Happy to hear yet another problem is gone......and it was there because of incompetent people....SAC centurion will never get a referral from me again, we took agarob there to get checked out after constantly going into limp mode ......8k later replacing solenoid that controls vnt on turbo ....they put it back on the dyno and said it better now they set the boost to high......then a bill for the dyno time .....WTH.....
One day later same problem there again ....we took it to turbo works and 20min later the solenoid was connected wrong 2 wires how difficult can it be ......o yes they tested and said it all ok ....R400 later and problem gone.....

sac will always get my vote. They have looked after my troll for many years and no issues. Never is a long time and my understanding is that they are sticking to diesels.

I have no intention to bad mouth people don't get me wrong .....places and business to it to them self ......if you pick up the manual on the madman its says EARTH DIRECT TO ENGINE BLOCK......no degree needed ....just follow instructions as per manual. ....
Tony trusted them and paid good money to have this installed by some one competent ......after 3 trips from south of jhb ect only answer was .....its a common patrol problem live with it.....
Jaco bes 4.8 went in for a overheating problem came back with a chip a new exhaust system , broken head studs, but the overheating problem was not addressed .....blown head gasket.
agarob was there for fault finding ......because they are the diesel diagnostic experts.........the car was worse when we picked it up than when we delivered it egts going to 700 deg when doing 70 in town......when we took it back after all the dynos ect and my question about high egts the answer was ......if the people on the forums know better about what temps must be .....please don't bring it here and let them fix it.
I realise the 30l are difficult to sort out .....but when we say please find what is wrong with this car and twice you pay for dynos when one of your people connected a solenoid that was supplied by you wrong I start to worry......
I do realise that they have a lot of happy clients and they do good work but to me the track record is not on .......if you do work on a client's car start with the basics and take responsibility for what you or your staff has done. .......

That is my point Tinus:
when things are right, everybody is happy. Things can go wrong, (and make no mistake: anybody and everybody will at one stage get things wrong) and that is when character shows.

If something had six bolts when you take it off, put it back with six. Don't tell me there was only 4, and the two remaining bolt-holes did not concern you, alledged specialists. That putting it back somehow it worked with 4 all the time but by some stroke of chance it happens to blow the gasket only after it left your workshop.

Then the repairs are all for my cost? The treatment from them when things go wrong is horrific. As are their rates under any circuimstances.

None of these Patrols were yours. Let the owners who had issues with SAC post them. They paid the invoices and they have the right to complain. We also need to follow the rules of the forum. 2.7 No brand bashing. As much as the complaints you have , I will only recommend SAC. Yes we all make mistakes, but both Mynhard and Gerhard are very knowledgeable on the Patrols, be it the 4.2 or the 3.0 lt.

Communication between customer and supplier is private and it is my opinion that when one posts issues like this we also need to get SAC's point so that fairness can prevail.


I have sent a link of this post to Mynhard and Gerhard so that they can reply. Lets see if they do and what response we will get.

I went to Brian to have the sensors installed, and then READ THE MANUAL before completing the rest of the installation (all the electrical bits) myself. Never had any issues with the system, as I mentioned before.

So yes, the Madman is Patrol compatible. And no, the Patrol does not use a 5V electrical system...

I just got permision to install EGT and Boost gauge on the Troll today. Was going to make use of steves centurion because of all the posts I've read. Now who must I go to?
Maybe I must try Groot seun? Or try i myself. Is it that difficult? Where can I buy these 2 items in guateng? please

I was looking at the clickshop lastnight. Also the manuals are available.

Buy the kit, not very hard to do yourself. Planning will be important - having all the tools on hand. I can help you saturday. Pm me your e-mail address so I can send you some information.

Important will be to route the wiring secure and correct and ensure sound connections. That affects the reliability. Correct installation determines the functionality.

Once done with the mechanics & cosmetics on my trol, i would like to develop a EMS. This aspect is the biggest obsticle for coversions like Duckitt's Skilpad. Have a look at freeEMS on the web. Hence I'm keeping an eye out for a good 4.5 or 4.8 motor. Hacking the Nissan ECU is a nightmare due to the lack of information.
