Patrol Fault Diagnostic with your Phone

Post by Bruin Beer »

Guys,
Thanks to Mamba from the forum my attention we drawn to the update that Tom from NDS did with respect to the Nissan Specific Diagnostic software.
This particular software is required to be able to get access to the Patrol (and allot of the other Nissan product).
Tom launched the Android version of the software on the Play Store for handsets running Android.

I downloaded the Free version and with the help of the following Bluetooth adaptor it took me 30 seconds to have access to my ECU (Engine Control Unit), reading back allot of live parameters and also was able to see that I have a NATS error code logged. :surprised:

I cleared the code using my phone and after starting the car I could see the status and real time values reported directly on my phone.
Pressing the accelerator I can see the engine revs and see how the water temperature was climbing as the engine warmed up from cold start.
really impressive and for me something I can not afford to be without in the bush. :naughty:

I see the Bluetooth adaptors are now available for +- R240-00. If there are people in the Gauteng area that are interested we can eliminate the shipping cost.

Hope this is of some help.

I have an identical OBD Scan tools and also downloaded the App that works in conjuction with it. I got it couple years back. It does not work in my Patrol for some or other reason but has worked in other vehicles.
I do not know if it is because of my year model (2005) which may have a different software than the newer versions.
I advise to check that it works with your vehicle before you buy.

OK, an update on my post above.
I downloaded the NDSII lite... and guess what, it works ie shows a few limited features like voltage, water temp etc.
Will now pay for and download the full version...
Will report back later!

Update II
OK so I downloaded the full app.
It works same as the lite version, ie same display data, which is very little data compared to other apps I have used for other vehicles.
Maybe there are features I have not found yet, as I see no RPM, oil temp, oil pressure, gearbox temp etc, etc that I have seen on other apps.
Although it did tell me there were no fault codes - which probably makes it worth the cost of the app...

Riaan ,(Bruin Beer) seeing Chris' post regarding the limited info he can read on the same vehicle and device, what parameters are you getting from the ECU displayed on your cel?

Chris, have you tried it on a 3l diesel Patrol? Is there any one able to test the tool on a ZD30, if Riaan or Chris is willing to give it a try?

Chris and Scuba,
If you go to the left bottom button on the phone you get a menu with "Data Display Settings".
Once you select this you can select the "+" sign at the right hand top and you are presented with a long list of parameters that you can add to the view menu.
I just added 'throttle position 1', 'throttle position 2', 'fuel load' and one of the bank timing inputs to verify that the Bluetooth adaptor function and it provided information on all that changed as I altered the throttle (rev up) or when selecting drive.
Not that I can state that I 100% understand the data presented but it is communicated.
I will have to wait for my adaptor or get me hands on the one from a friend to have access to the list to be able to list all the functions provided.
The NDSII does not progress to this function without linking to the device.
I will add this information as soon as I have it.

Scuba,
I have only tried this on my 2005 4.8 GRX. and another4.8 GRX.
Maybe Chris has some access to a diesel to try this out.
