MY QUESTION

If one purchase a brand new 2014 3.0 Diesel is all of the above still applicable or have Nissan refined (read sorted out) the above in the latest 3.0D engines??
It would be horrifying to buy a new 3.0 D and having to expect to attend to all of the above.

I believe that the really bad ones were up to around 2002. Nissan increased the oil capacity from under 6 litres to 8.5 Litres after that. Apparently the CRD of around 2008 had all the problems with the ECU and turbo management sorted out.
As mine is a potential hand grenade, I followed a lot of Australian advice with what they refer to as the Nads. I never fitted a catch can, blocked the EGR or fitted an EGT meter, but watch my turbo boost gauge like a hawk. There were also confusing articles where some believed blocking off the EGR valve and a bigger exhaust would in fact increase EG temperatures. A lot of them went as far as removing the control of the turbo from the ECU and setting it up with external management.
With what we do with our trucks, some more extreme than others, I do believe a EGT would be a good investment, something I plan to do.

I would strongly recommend that you contact Frans Fourie (Tour de Frans) and get his much more informed advice on this topic, but my feeling is as follows:

Every turbo diesel should have an EGT monitoring system. This should have either an audible alarm or limp-mode intervention, and should be fitted by the factory.
However, since this is not happening, I would strongly recommend you have it done yourself.
Oil catch can can wait, a new engine should have very little blow-by. I think this can wait untill the engine uses a measurable amount of oil.
Bigger intercooler is probably not essential if EGT's are monitored, but it will improve performance noticeably! Do it.
MAF: should be clean, as it is still new. Regular cleaning should be part of the maintenance on any vehicle so equipped.
Exhaust: Same as for bigger intercooler.
I doubt this can make a big difference in a new engine, as long as good quality oil and fuel is used.
EGR: Don't know, and opinions are divided about the efficacy of this anyway.
Snorkel: Same as for bigger intercooler.
Radiator: Should be cleaned periodically as part of maintenance.
Big tires: Any increase in load will increase EGT's (and fuel consumption etc), but as long as EGT's are kept within limits by adapting your driving style, it should be fine.

Ditto on what Peter said ......for a amount of about 3k to fit a complete mad man its worth every sent .....any turbo diesel needs one .....hope it helps

On the Aussie forum, I understand 600,000km is considered a good age.

Sure, but the 4.2 is an old-tech motor, and 5000km is the stipulated oil change interval.

On the 3l, the stipulated interval is much longer.

Also take note that using 50PPM will protect the oil.

I dont like the idea of changing oil only at 15000 . To me the stealers just make it longer to compete with service intervals of other brands ....when people buy a car they look at it and think they are saving money .....all that happens is when the car is under motor plan it saves them time and spares .....the same engine needed to be done at 10000 8 years ago now it 15000 what has changed?
Anyway. ....if I buy a new diesel I would change oil at least every 10000 km imho a filter and oil is cheap to give you extra 200000 km in the long run .....

This is how I see oil and oil filters


Oil is the life blood of the engine similar to the blood in our bodies for the heart. Clean blood that is free of nicotine and bad cholesterol ensure our bodies operate easier and longer. Changing the filters ensure the correct pressure is maintained just like blood pressure in our bodies, and the engine gets the correct lubrication.
The better we look after our heart the better for us and the better we can perform. Extra weight puts a strain on our bodies, just like the bigger tires and all the extras we add to our Trolls
I am used to the cost every 5000 hours but I am getting the benefit of it and would suggest you take a look at this. Ultimately Nissan have top engineers who look at this, but changing earlier in my mind is better.

My Patrol 3l diesel is a 2006 model with 170000 km on the clock. I have installed a MADMAN monitor and try and limit the EGT to 650 deg. also installed a Daws valve to limit boost spikes.

Other than that I use 50PPM diesel as far as possible.

This troll of mine has done some serious use by the Voetspore manne in 2006 and is still going strong. Only time will tell if this is all that is needed. But expect normal wear and tear maintenance like turbo services/replacement, injector replacement, clutch etc. Only thing on my list to be done is a 3 inch smoke screen outlet without any CAT or boxes. And note that to date I have not done any thing to the items listed under wear and tear. (need to have all looked for peace of mind )

Remember every vehicle will give you problems, even the Toys do give problems, it is how you deal with it that makes the deference!
