Re: Does anyone know this patrol
I have looked at too. My 3.0 2001 comes from the UK and has wipers on the headlights. When the roads are gritted during winter, the lights on a long trip become covered with salt and get quite dim. There is a water spray on them as well to wash off the rock salt. Mine also has the roof rails as per that photo. I think you guys are correct in thinking it is an import.
I wondered about the Turbo though when he mentioned no chain but gears and thought he might mean a super charger. He also said it was the only turbo around which we know is not true. He also said it was a petrol engine in the fuel type section.
I would be very wary about this one as it might not have proper papers and it over priced.
Regards.
Barry.
PS, was the 1999 one not the one with the after market turbo? If so,I believe the pistons on a black top were not made for a turbo but may be talking out of line

Re: Does anyone know this patrol
I think I should stay away from this one...anybody think otherwise or know the car/owner? What you think of the 4.2 diesel I want to look at in PTA. link is at the start of the thread. I think I should drive the 4.8 and see what type of beast I am dealing with and then try the diesel, that way I wont be kicking my own butt because I need the power on the dunes!!...but the fuel !!!!! There's a 4.8 in Somerset West in Cape Town that has the chip etc in it, anybody know it?

Hi Rovcra
The 4.8 looks good. Allot of guys on the forum had problems with chips, make sure it was done by someone that knows what he was doing. I also see that it is a manual transmission. This, according to me, is very nice and they are quite scarce. It is a lot of car for the price.

Re: Does anyone know this patrol
The only time my 4.8 makes me smile uncontrolled for days on end is when n hit the dunes.....cedric said he managed in the dunes at atlantis but needed to wind it up a bit
If playing in the sand is big on the list go for it ......4.2 is a best overlanding choice.
Dont think the 4.2 does mutch better than 7km per liter on open road ....4.8 wil do 6 if you drive nice......

Re: Does anyone know this patrol
Best I got loaded to the max going to Ponta do Oura, driving at 110km/h..... cause a landy was following in the convoy.... was 12.1 L/100Km. A good general average on the open road driving nicely at 120Km for me is 14 L/100Km. Town, stop-start short trip consumption is up to about 17L/100Km..... And I don't mess about when i pull off.....

Cedric

Re: Does anyone know this patrol
So I reckon for the most fun might as well go for the 4.8 then... if fuel consumption is only slightly better Id rather have the power of the 4.8..it is after all going to be my stress reliever ha ha. Go big or go home!
