I have never heard of any problems, I have been running around Africa for 25 year with main batteries and aux batteries under the passenger seat in my landies and more recently behind the rear seats in the patrol and have never experienced any fumes ect. Cheers Ian

mneer I T T .. on a point: A "Landy" does NOT seal tight enough to hold a threat for fumes of any kind .. mos I saw Casper trying to make breakfast on the gas cooker in the back of the landy - to no avail, the wind kept blowing out the flames ..\

AS for the question on batteries building up hydrogen [waterstof] while on charge: YES they do BUT two batteries will need loing time to build enough to be explosion hazard. Every time you drive, the gasses filter out. Every time you open e door, it flows out. Driving with teh AC on circulates the air..
Be aware that those gasses are highly explosive. Take care. Circulate the air .. and you should be OK .

If the car is all closed up.... yes even a Landy.... for say a few days or you have the batteries on a trickle charger cause you don't drive it for weeks on end and this hydrogen gas, being lighter than air, builds up and sits in a pocket under the roof. Now what can happen when you suddenly open the door and instantly the interior roof light lights up? If the connection is good and no spark is present, then no problem a little light will glow as you get into the car. But say there is a bad connection, and a small spark happens.... you will still get some light I presume.... just the light bulb will be the whole interior of you car as it delicately blows up..... remembering I'm saying "this is hypothetical"

Personally I think there are many far greater more things to fear than this unbelievably unlikely hypothesis.

Looking at the amount of dust my car sucks in, the rear door doesn't seal well enough for this ever to become a likely scenario.

If you are concerned, just leave your windows open a couple of mm. this is in any case a good idea as it makes the windows much harder to break.

ha ha.... like I said ... purely hypothetical. The idea of having a aux battery in the cab has been done for ages, and I've never heard of a vehicle blowing up due to this.... well maybe in the movies it can happen, but not in reality.

Hi guys n have asked mr stoebel from deltec to write a bit on advantage of different batteries and charging systems and according to him which one is the best value for money regarding time of use ect . Just waiting for his email he was in durban this week . Will post as soon as I get it .I think that getting it from them would be great because the sell them all ....remember that they are in edenvale and give good prices to forum members. ....he also said that they are more than willing to do a workshop for the guys of a hour or so to look at different products at a recovery training day or something
I can also forward u his no and email if you want to speak to him . I have been using the different batteries for different applications in my line of work and always get the correct answer from the people that sells them all

Simple fix is to remove the rear plastic vents on the rear pillar. These have foam sections that are supposed to prevent the dust entering the car. I had a similar problem to you and found that the foam sections that are supposed to filter out the dust had perished. I closed the holes so that no air flow could take place and now have 90% less dust in the Troll.
