THIS TRIP IS NOW OFFICIALLY ON!
I just wanted to wait for the Nissan Offroad club dates and plans to come out.
Destination is Warterford Dunes. It is a privately owned farm with dunes and camping facilities.
It is about 9 hours drive from Gauteng,
It is more or less the same travel time from Cape Town! So more or less central. Talk about a national GTG. We are not forgetting you Cape town guys!
Tour de Frans? Hoe lyk dit met daai v8 van jou? Hy is mos gemaak vir duine?
Dan kyk ons hoe maak hy teenor my Lexus en Tommie sy groot Yster
Camping cost is R100 p.p.p.n and R30 per kid (<=11)
There are three dune routes on the farm: Ranging between R250 and R350 per route. So you can budget for R900 if you wish to do all three.
Other than that it is only fuel costs and food ("only fuel". Ha-ha, our petrol guzzlers...). We also need to take firewood.
Dates:
Here I need to express my sincerest recognition of the Nissan offroad club's planned trip to the Eastern Cape.
I do not want to weaken the interest in that trip, but I also think we are big enough as a group of people than the precious 9 day public holiday spree between 26 April to 4 May is not limited to one 4x4 trip option. The proposed dates is therefore from Saturday 26 April to Monday 28 April.
Since it is quite a long drive, we will need to leave on the Friday 25 April (some may prefer Thursday night), so that the dune driving can happen on the Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of April.
Then it is up to everyone whether to chill on the Monday and when to make your way back.
Diesel guys:
You REAL TRUCK guys are of course also most welcome. Just don't rev your engines like the petrols above 5,000 rpm. You may see pistons popping like champagne cork.
But then you may also make it back from Waterford in one tank!
See this interesting thread on diesels versus petrol on dunes: http://4x4community.co.za/forum/showthr ... une&page=4
And do take note: 7 out of the top 10 cars in the latest Dakar were diesels.
Much more R&D is being spent on diesels than petrols engines these days. LeMans and Dakar is evident of that. So, one day is one day....
The list so far:
1) Tommie Yster
2) Alex Witblits
3) ...
4)
5)
