Hello, I really hope someone can help, I have a 1999 4.2 TDI Patrol 203 000km, had it for 3 years to date, there has always been an overheating problem, I had the top replaced last year and just had the entire engine reconditioned including a new radiatior, water pump everything is new apart from the block. I got the car back last Friday drove 20km and it overheated again. The car is back at the garage and these guys are now schraching there heads as to find out how this is possible.
I hope someone can help, maybe have an explanation or have experience of a similar overheating problem.

Regards
Arriewarrie.

Hey guys,

A Mechanical guru is Craig Kinch from Engineering Unlimited in Kyasands.

Craig used to be head engineer for our Formula Vee race team as well as my karting ventures, other than that Craig was also very involved with both Toyota Racings SP1 Race bakkies and the S2000 and A7 rally cars. He designed, built and ran an SP1 Hilux in 2009 that won the national champs in the hands of a privateer team.

Craig builds a huge number of parts for Rallying etc and is building my old ballies 6.3l chev V8 power troll, dude has made skills - almost everyone in SA motorsport will vouch for Craigs Genius!
Drive fast and take chances.

Hi Nick

My view is that good mechanics are good at different things. You cannot be everything to everyone.
I am sure Craig is good with engines for example, perhaps also in off-road race issues, but how good is his knowledge specifically on the Patrol drivetrain for example?
Just asking. I am not suggesting that he is not good in all matters Patrol, but that this is what I think we need here.

I understand your dad's got a Chev conversion on his trol and you are still looking for your own?
Have a look at this thread.

It is a dead Patrol (no engine) that you can pick up for very little. I do not know if it is still in the market.
Perhaps follow the same route as your dad?
I feel that the Chevs are just too heavy on fuel in a heavy car such as this, but this depends on your personal preference.
