I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who responded with help and ideas. My local Nissan parts manager has been really helpful and finally managed to track these parts down and they should arrive in a couple of weeks.

The price, it being Nissan, is eye-watering. I had to order a full set of clips as they are quite fragile and it is easy to break even the secure ones getting the trims off. To do all four wheel arches the clips will cost around 1400 rand in total. That's why I tried breaker's yards but with no Patrol imports to the UK for six or more years now most of the scrapped vehicles have been completely stripped.
Alternatives may have been cheaper, though I doubt it, but the actual plastic trims themselves are fine and it seems a pity to scrap them. I will probably need at least one of the rubber strips that sits between the plastic arch and the metal of the body. Nissan want 500 rand each for those.
I can't complain really though. I bought the vehicle at five years old with 90,000 km on for only 70000 rand and I haven't spent much on it. Full set of bash plates right back to the transfer box; OME suspension and some steel rims and that's it. It has taken me down into Western Sahara twice now, as well as the High Atlas and Pyrenees and it has never missed a beat. the 2.8 is underpowered but the six cylinders run nicely. The only real problem is pronounced turbo lag at low speed.

Agree on the pricing and I got tiered of plastic welding the clips on the wheel trim back on. The current rubber strips sit a little higher but work very well.

Thanks for that. I may well follow you with the replacement rubber arches if this doesn't work. Those thin rubberised filler strips never seem very secure to me and the whole plastic trim assembly never seems as tight as it does on Cruisers or Pajeros. I want to have them off though because I bet they are now full of sand, dust and wet river mud. At least with replacement rubber arches I won't have that to worry about so I am thinking that maybe I should seriously consider it before paying out a lot of money for something that might need doing again in a year or two. I will talk to my body shop and see what they can come up with.
