Guys

Thabbie's trol is an SWB.
This is still a 3litre enjin with four cylinders, pulling a three tonne truck.
Too much stress. Handgrenade. Rubbish.
Put in a big block enjin.
Finish and klaar.

Now what???
In the past week, after returning from Magoebaskloof with no problems - apart from the sudden crazy boost and egt readings that once - I start seeing a dripping trail of liquid every time I move the car out of the garage, and a small puddle under the front axle on the passenger side. On checking, it is pink (water and coolant mixture). Funny thing is that as soon as the car warms up, it stops running out. If I park in the garage when hot, there is no drip at all, but when the car is cold and the filler bottle is opened, then the water literally starts running out from under the engine block - also, after starting, like I said it runs out until everything warms up. It seems to be getting worse the more I use the car, I'm collecting more water now than before, also when we returned last week and I checked the water level, it was ok.

Last Wednesday I passed by Silverton Radiators to see if they could locate the leak, but it is too difficult to see anything without removing parts. They did however think that it was leaking from the metal pipe attached to the top radiator hose on one side, and into the engine block on the other side - maybe there is a problem with a gasket or it was'nt properly tightened.

To top it all, I wanted to go out this afternoon at 5pm - after visiting inlaws earlier (with no problems) and guess what!!! The engine management light is now showing on the dash. When I got home this morning and was waiting for my garage door to open, I moved forward after having stopped, and it felt just like when you want to move in an auto and move the gear fron N to D you feel a little jolt as it kicks in. When I lifted the clutch I got that same slight feel just before she moved. Could something not have been put back right by Bosch or is it just my Patrol on a roll with giving me a hard time????!!!

Anyhow, I need to drain oil and replace filter after having done 1000km after all the work that was done, so hopefully we can get to the bottom of this.

Just lost even more trust points with swambo!!

Hi Tony

You should not feel alone on this issue:
Read this:
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/s ... conversion

I think, once you have done the conversion to 42d at a trusted place, you can start with a new batch of trust points with wifie.

Tony, sudden water loss on a turbo-diesel running at highway speeds can lead to engine seizure within seconds. If it was me, I wouldn't drive it until the cause is identified and properly resolved; I would be concerned that whatever it is could lead to sudden water loss while driving. Hopefully it's just something minor - like a clamp that needs proper tightening.

Tony
let someone pump that system up and find the leak is the only way u can pump it up when cold and then run the engine to get termostat to open up

Tinus, I went to Nissan in Strijdom Park (just moved from Randburg) and wanted them to replace the oil (1000km after the work was done) and attend to the water leak as well. They also checked the error code from the Engine Management Light. Well, the leak is in the block somewhere - they suspect a cylinder head gasket, or some front plate cover which means that the engine needs to come out again - which means many hours of labour etc. etc. Needless to say, I told them not to do anything while I try to digest this latest bad news and try to find a solution. By the way, the mechanic is a bloke by the name of Ryno and he says that he knows some of the forum members and his family has a 4.8 Patrol as well as 3.0 hardbodys and he knows the 30td motor very well. I am still waiting for a quote to remove the engine - and maybe it would be a good time to check for any other suspect work and sort it at the same time. Only problem is that I will probably need a loan to do it (via Nissan anyway).

I stick to what i've said befor -- tha ZD 30 motor is a great engine -- BUT prior to 2002 [early 2003] the ECU is set for Eoropean conditions .. get that rhgt and drive by EGT and steer clear of performance chipshit
Freeflow the exhozt & branches, enlarge the inter cooler -- fit a bigger core radiator -- and provided previuos owners did not messup as in Tony's case here -- that 30 motor will take you to past 400 000 km .. I believe taht fully
