thanks for the good feedback will be at the next recovery training day. someone show me all the stuff i missed maybe do a recovery simulation that will be nice.

Schalk, I have not been able to watch the videos yet.

My feeling about recovering forwards or backwards: use the side with the strongest recovery points. If they are equal, use the back.

Just WRT the G-wagon: while they have, as Alex stated, relatively little flex, they should have about the same or more flex than the Hardbody (except possibly for the current G300 pro). Also, for both lockers to be broken on a vehicle like this seems unlikely. I wonder if there was some operator error (that things need to be switched on in some particular order or something)?

the thing is peter when he switched on the lockers front and rear there was a grinding goise from the diffs. and only 1 wheel was spinning on wach side. dont know whats wrong there so i recon ti was broken lockers. at the moment i didnt have rear recovery points on so the other reason i did the recovery in reverse. HB diffs are quite strong not like the landy diffs that tent to break. and yes the oke had no idea what he was doing.

Finally got to watch the videos.
Schalk, I considered putting this only in a PM to you, but decided to answer on open forum. Though please do not see this as a personal attack, but as an attempt to raise awareness.

Pretty good effort, and nice and slow. However I would recommend getting the bystanders further away, although it is difficult to see just how close they were. They need to be at least 1.5 times the combined length of the ropes away, both from the starting point and from the end point of the recovery.

I do think that a lot of the danger in a recovery situation is due to us often being in too much of a hurry, and thus not planning and preparing properly. In this respect, it looks like you actually did quite well. At least you are thinking, which is he most important step toward safety!

I would probably have done it differently
I am always in too much of a hurry and would have forgotten about any of the spectators

thanks and no i dont see this as an attack lol. want to learn more this is why i posted the video. wanted to know what i did wrong etc. but its my first recovery never remember all of the stuff at once. thanks for the feedback i learned alot from the comments and will do it differently next time. all i ask is maybe simulate a stuck vehicle in mud etc. and just show me the correct way to recover a vehicle.

meanwhile i did install rear recovery points will the rated bolts etc. so the next one ill do different. so lets say
1. bystanders was too close maybe 20 meters further away??
2. the recovery blanket filled with sand to keep it down.
3.maybe hook the vehicles up differently??
4. bonnet up for added protection??

any more suggestions.
