New Turbo, EGT gauge etc.
Just got my "Trollie" back from SAC with new turbo and full on Madman engine management system - the whine is gone and she is riding beautifully. This EGT reading is quite fascinating, and a concern in that only now, after 177000 km has it been put in place it's scary to see just how fast and high the temp does climb when going uphill.
This gauge shows water temp, EGT, voltage, oil pressure and oil temp. I like the fact that I can set an alarm on each when a certain level is reached - can someone please let me have the danger levels on each so that I can set the alarms accordingly.
Now I understand why everyone makes such a big deal about this EGT gauge - amazing tool!!
cheers.

Oompie, dit was nou 'n moerse duur storie - everything else is now officially on hold due to lack of funds!!!
Maar vertel my nog bietjie - hoeveel geraas, wat van die paar "heat shields" op die original pipe (at least I think they are for heat dissipation) - do you need to replace branches as well as the pipe in order to get the full benefit, and what difference do you actually feel ??

A 3-liter diesel bakkie that outruns an empty D4D Fortuner - and with 1-tonne traile, canopy, drwaer system outruns an doutclimbs a 4,2 Croozer bakkie [empty]
BEST sol according toe one expert: 76 mm downpipe into 63mm at the flange [cat's removed and dummies for Lambda sensor] then a box right at he back for low low down torque
a'boot R3000 if yu do stainless
Speak to ABLE at VIPER Performance Exhausts [KemptonPark ]
Worth it?? Yu betcha
Then - next year a larger intercooler

EGT: Is the sensor before or after the turbo? If before, 630-650C if after, 100 less?
Voltage: 12.9 will tell you if the alternator charges, but will alarm each time you start.
Oil pressure: check the workshop manual.
Oil temp: 115-120 degrees.
Opinions vary on all the above, of course.

Re: New Turbo, EGT gauge etc.
Thanks Pete - by the way, your ladder works like a charm - except for one weak point where you had to weld in order to attach it to the bracktets on the roof rack - it broke off at the bolt. I am having a stainless part made at the moment, and have made 2 stainless holders (a copy of yours) instead of one, in order to eliminate any possibility of rattles, (remember the one you never galvanised). I am also working on an extension as it comes too close to the car's bodywork depending on ground surface - something removeable to extend the length a little. I will post some pics as soon as I am done!

Re: New Turbo, EGT gauge etc.
Turbo EGT's are very important. As Peter said, pre turbo 630 is, in my opinion a max temp, and post turbo EGT limit must be set at least 530 deg, as the turbo drops the temp by roughly 100 deg C. I have a pre and post EGT reading on my Patrol, so know this for a fact.
A straight through exhaust, preferably in a 3", although I would like to try a 4" straight through exhaust on mine, is a good mod to do. The turbo acts a a "silencer" to a degree, and therefore no silencers are needed in this complete exhaust system. Noise levels are unbelievably quiet, and you will hardly hear a difference in volume, but will get a great tone coming out the other end. This free breathing will assist in EGT temps as you can get rids of the exhaust gasses quicker ( less restriction in the pipe) allowing the motor to breath better.

Re: New Turbo, EGT gauge etc.
Will there also be a slight bit more power / torque, or is it purely to help lower EGT ?

Re: New Turbo, EGT gauge etc.
Tony, power wise I doubt there will be a noticeable difference. But this mod will help your turbo spool up slightly quicker as the gas moves out much faster. So I think your turbo kick will be a little sooner.
