GQ radiator overflow re routed

Post by Jules »

Hello all

My GQ was running a bit hot lately between half and 3/4'ers , normally it is at 1/4 . Last year I saw the overflow pypie broke off below the radiator cap, the radaitor shop did a fix and dit gaan klopdisselboom. During Dec in Ponta I saw temp going high but thought heat + sand driving adds up. Back in the Bay same problem, especially when I am stationery and idling. Saw the fixing of overflow came apart and took it vback to Clean Core Radiators here locally. We added about 2 liters of water and then the owner suggested they install another release valve for overflow, cut a piece out of waterpipe running just behind cooling fan put in a T piece and let the overflow run from there. On the new T piece they put a 0.9 pressure radiator cap and on original they put a 1.1 pressure radiator cap.

They also did a chemical water colouring test which showed after a long time a cjange in colour from blue to green nd suggested that there is a possible gas leak due to hairline crack in the head or one of the pistons and I should have it checked out. I have since then taken vehicle to Silverton in R/Bay ( they did a straight forward pressure test - no problem ), then to Siverton Emp ( first did a straight foprward pressure test - no problem, then they also did the chemical colouring test and also no change colour )

My question is must I have the vehicle opened and have the head and cilinders checked out for hairline cracks? or the fact that 3 test afterwards showed no sign of leaks be sufficient to leave it as it is. Currently temp is very similar to what it was , but we have not yet had some extreme hot days like the previous two weeks
