Hello Dirk
The seal is partially under the oil level normally, so can leak out while the car is standing. The leak could be caused by a damaged/tired seal or by a blocked breather, so step1 is to unplug the breather pipe from the top of the diff, and make sure it is open by blowing through it.
Next thing to realize is that if the leak continues, the oil leaking out of the diff will gradually wash the grease out of the birfield joint. Now as long as your hubs remain unlocked and your vehicle remains in 2x4, this will not cause any problems and just topping up the diff oil should be fine.
However, if you use 4x4 with no grease in the birfields, you could have expensive problems...

Dirk,
'n Curve Ball.
Jy se dit is nie gewone olie nie.
Hoe seker is jy dit is nie rem vloeistof nie?
Net 'n "dom vraag".

Update
Ps - Rem vloeistof is heeltemal vol......

Daai lyk nie vir my so erg nie?
