Directional tyre rotation
I recently purchased ProComp Extreme A/T which is a directional tyre, it is nearly time to rotate and I want to include my spare , what is the correct way if we make driver tyre 1, front passenger tyre 2, rear passenger tyre behind front passenger 3 , passenger tyre behind driver 4 and the spare 5.

Re: Directional tyre rotation
If you get the tyre fitment place to swap them around on the rim then the rotation direction remains the same and should not make a difference.

Re: Directional tyre rotation
I wonder if turning tires on rims will not lead to bead damage in the long run? Perhaps you need to mark them permanly, so that you ensure that you turn them around in a sequance, and don't end up turning one tire around all the time.
If you do not want to turn a tire on the rim, you would then only be able to move front to back, and on one side (depending on the orientation the spare was fitted for) you could put the spare on the front, front on back and back on spare.
However, I want to add another question to the mix. Say your spare is fitted to run on the left-hand side, what do you do if you get a pncture on the right?

Re: Directional tyre rotation
Peter you convince the tyre it is on the left it is going then you put on the right, The clever okes reckons it is for water replacement mostly that the directional should face front , I chnaged my BFG twice that the white writing shows inside so I see no problem in doing same now again

Re: Directional tyre rotation
Yip, directional tyres are a bit of a bugger. As mentioned above, the directional pattern works best in terms of dispersing water in one direction.
It is still possible to find a rotating scheme for a set of 5 directional tyres so that they always rotate in the design direction when going forwards, but it does involve demounting the tyres from the rims from time to time so that they can be moved from the left to the right of the vehicle while always rolling in the design direction when going forwards.
Here is one such a scheme, based on your numbering system, Jules:
Imagine we are looking down on the car from above with the front end pointing to the left:
1....4
........5
2....3
Rotation 1
After say 10000 km, move the spare wheel to right front, the right front to right rear, right rear to spare and swop the left hand tyre positions:
5....1
........4
3....2
Assuming that the spare tyre was already mounted on the rim in the correct sense for mounting on the right hand side, it does not need demounting.
Rotation 2
At 20000 km, move the spare to left front, left front to left rear, left rear to spare and swop the right hand tyre positions:
1....5
........2
4....3
Note that the spare would need to be demounted and turned on the rim for rotating the other way.
Rotation 3
At 30000 km, move the spare to right rear, right rear to right front, right front to spare and swop the left hand tyre positions:
5....2
........1
3....4
The spare once again needs to be demounted and turned.
Rotation 4
At 40000 km,move the spare to left rear, left rear to left front, left rear to spare and swop the right hand tyre positions:
2....5
........3
4....1
The spare tyre once again needs to be demounted and turned.
So it carries on with the spare requiring demounting at each rotation. The spare successively goes to the right front, left front, right rear and left rear.
In this way the mileage on all tyres is balanced approximately and all tyres get to run in the front and rear positions for approximately equal mileages. By the time the set of tyres have been on the car for 120000 km, each tyre would have done between 90000 and 100000 km and would have been demounted only twice.

Re: Directional tyre rotation
Thanks Gerrit but should the spare not first go to right rear ? as per the Bridgestone website ? I guess whatever method one decide on you must keep ggod record of it, maybe what I must do is buy 1 "presies" the same tyres for my trailer and use the trailer then as the place to run the spares and put 2 good condition 31 x 10.5R15 tyres as spare for trailer and Patrol
