Tyre Pressure Monitoring

Post by Pieter du Toit »

Hi all,

Ok - who has this?? There are many makes and models available - Tyredog, Tyrecheker, Digityre, Autotyre etc - prices range from R2000-00  to as much as R5000-00!!! And what system does one go for - inside the rim or the valve cap type one?? Pro's and cons of each system type.

Anyone with info on this topic please respond. :salute:

I think the tyre cap one is a bad idea, to many "skelms" out there! I like the one inside the tyre.

G-Man

Tend to think so as well but spoke to Johan Tyre this morning - according to him it is not as easy to steal the valve cap one as people make it out to be. But he has the systems and installs them - valve cap and inside rim ones - so I will go and have a look by him.

I noted we are still only 4 members going to Tierkloof Sun 30 Aug - you still on because I want to. If no other forum members are going I am going to invite 1 or 2 others of my 4x4 friend cirlce - the guys are mostly eager to go. I am starting to wonder if we have forum members who buy Patrols for the sake of having a 4x4!!! :surprised: I suppose now I am going to get thrown with stones!!!

Looking forward to your pic of the led panel - am very interested in it as well.

Hi Pieter. I'm gonna get stoned for this, "cruiser outing" and you have cruiser owners going apes#*!. If Patrol owners could get that attitude it would be awesome, for the vehicle "NISSAN PATROL" as much as the site! :surprised: Lets give it to the end of the week for the guys to get their butt's in gear. :tease:

I agree with you, sometimes I get the feeling that Nissan owners feel a litte ashamed of driving "just a Nissan"
I do not feel the same, I know the Patrol is the best overall package. (ja ek is bietjie van die onderwerp af, maar ek wou net my opinie gee)

So we are 5 people going to Tierkloof so far? Pieter, G-Man, Saltman, Newbie(Cornelius) and Tour de Frans.

What are we discussing here, the Tyre Press Mon System or a trip outing...??

I bought the Tyredog TPMS (throught Hein B. about 2 months ago...

Used it throughout our 10 day Richtersveld trip last month, as well as EVERY week in the Dunes.

It was money VERY well spend and it "paid 4 itself" within the 1st outing I had (almost lost a L/F tyre on an obstickle).

It is the "the valve cap type one" and I can highly recommend it.

Jacques,

I am looking at the Digityre TPMS 201 S system - it is an inside the rim with valve system  but the nice thing is it has an off road and on road mode for your minimum and maximum settings - excellent  On road for instance is 1.6 bar (min) and off road is 0.8 bar (min) This at least means no annoying alarm noises in your ears when driving dunes, sand etc.

Does the tyredog also have this ability because the info on the internet does not mention anything about this??

My wife bought me a Tyredog (6 wheel model-to cater for the trailer) for my birthday 18 months ago. It was a surprise.

She used MY credit card, and forgot to remove the price tag. She had to comfort me with a straight double single malt.

It transpires that it was money well spent. It works well, is reliable, robust and accurate.

The monitors are also robust, waterproof, dustproof and lockable.

It learns one a lot about the behaviour of tyres in different circumstances, eg, I never thought that sun versus shade would have an influence on pressure while driving.
