Towbar, Yes or No???

Post by Lunar »

After a small incident (Patrol 100 points  Toyota 0 points  ) I need to replace the tow bar on the Patrol.
But after buying the new tow bar, I remember that there was some issue about the strength of this fixing point on the Patrols bumper.

On the Aussie forum (Patrol.com) it seems to be still unclear.

That mounting is designed as a recovery point. Recovery design loads are typically significantly higher thann the vehicle's gross weight and allowance is made for the fact that this load might be applied in a direction other than directly astern. Typically it is assumed that the load might be applied up to 10 deg off directly astern in any direction. This means that this recovery point and the underlying structure must be plenty strong.

On my old Pajero I had a towbar attached to a similar point. It also featured a plow of note that always hooked everywhere. I never had any structural issues, though. Eventually I cut the plow short.

Ok - Ok!
