I Agree with Piet use the knetic one as nornal strap less jurking ect I don't think this can damage the car or strap?? Sometimes a person needs the length to get out of the sh#t just to get some sracsion to pull , I think you can put the normal and knetic together if you need more distance from the mud ect???????????? :think:

Jy kan nie "tow" strap en "snatch" strap aanmekaar las nie. PUNT [hier is nie genoeg spasie om die redes uit te le nie -- vir een: die 'Kinetic" se kragte neem toe soos dit rek [en al SNATCH jy nie rek hy eers uit voordat hy begin 'trek'] nou is jou 12 ton "sleeptou" skielik onderhewig aan 20 ton trek [veral as die voertuig in herwinning rerrag VAS VAS Vassit]

dit word netnie gedoen nie [daar is twee, miskien 3 fundis in RSA wat ek sal vertrou om te bepaal wanner is die las van "snatch" en "tow" straps aanmekaar gekoppel kan word [nee, ek is nie een van hulle nie]

Ek het twee dinge daai dag geleer.
1) Daar is teveel om te weet en van te leer vir een oggend se opleiding.
2) Alles loop in elk geval op die ou end skeef met 'n herwinning, en dan maak jy maar die beste van die saak. So, bv laste tussen verskillende soorte toue (soos met 'n kinetic) kan gedoen word, maar iets word in die proses opgevoeter. Dis dalk die laaste keer wat die kinetic regtig nog steeds 'n "kinetic" sal wees. Maar as jy die lengte nodig het om weg van die modder af te sleep, is dit dalk al opsie wat jy het. Voeter eerder die tou op as om jou kar aleen in die bundus te los...

I can see that I have put my foot into a hornet's nest again. Wish it were my mouth instead.

So let me elaborate: When using a snatch rope/strap as a towrope, one will of course have to be very carefull, because the forces in effect can multiply very quickly and without you realizing. I do believe though that when towing a vehicle through thick sand, the forces in the system will be less than the very jerky tow created when using a standard rope/strap. And I must believe that other situations may similarly benefit from using the particular benefits of a snatch rope without in fact snatching.

When doing recovery of a stuck vehicle, a snatch rope works by transfering the momentum of the recovery vehicle to the stuck vehicle. As such, it would normally only be used if it has been proven that the tractive effort of the recovery vehicle on it's own is not sufficient. In other words, you first try to affect a recovery using a normal strap/rope, and if the stuck vehicle cannot be recovered in this way, you then unpack the snatch rope.

But the snatch rope is not some magic tool that creates force, it merely stores and unleashes energy. And thus I believe that using a snatch rope in the way a normal rope would be used, could not generate the same type of force as would be generated by doing a full-blown snatch recovery. Because the recovery vehicle does not have the necessary tractive effort to generate them.

However, it would be prudent to do the preperation as if you were doing a full-blown snatch recovery.

When using a snatch rope to extend a tow rope, this adds a whole new can of worms. I would be very hesitant to do a snatch recovery with joined straps, but would consider doing a normal tow-recovery in this way. Off course, one has to think and prepare carefully. There must be no steel in the joint between the ropes, and the joint should be weighted by tying a sandbag to the knot. Furthermore, the snatch rope must be by far the weakest link in the chain.

I might for example consider using a tow strap as a sort of a "long bridle".

That is why it is not a bad idea to have a LONG strap.

I also have an extension cable.

I agree with most of what u are saying I just stil beleave the less you jurk on a car the better when doing a snatch rrecovery only the snatch strap with all the bells and wissles but only as a last resort don't like doing it ................. :mytwocents:

For those in the Cape. There is a small shop in the Main Road, Retreat called Ropeworld. They are excellent and will make up bridles, tow ropes or/and snatch ropes to your specification at a considerably better price than you will get the same at 4x4 outlets.
