loads and loads of sand

Hello all. As expected I've been fiddling non stop since I got the Patrol. I'm in the process of taking out the carpet on the floor of the loading bay and replacing it with some insertion rubber which is a bit more hard wearing and makes cleaning up dirt, dog hair, spilt beer and the 2l Sprite bottle that popped on that horrible corrugated road a lot easier I took the carpet out and was amazed by the amount of sand in there! It looks like it is everywhere under all the upholstery. There is so much sand that a wasp made a nest with it behind the tail light! So the vehicle has obviously been on dirt roads a lot. I've checked but can't see any obvious place where so much sand could be getting in.

Any ideas?

sand is a bugger with carpets ........in moz i find it hard not to keep the sand out it falls in and works it way down to the felt
are you going to put some sound proof stuff under the rubber?

The previous owners must have been fishing buddies in Moz, leaving all the doors open in strong wind while they were fishing. There is sand everywhere, even in the dash. Had mine now for a year and every time I remove a door panel or seat or other part inside to sort something out, I find more beach sand.

Best way to give it a good clean.

I have mine now for aprx 3 weeks , and this is what it looks like know

Has been washed 3x times polished 2x - outside, then started to clean the inside, so much sand I decided to strip completely and clean properly.

End result - I tried to ensure that all wires are neatly in place and glued to stay in place (sound system, arial etc)

I fitted 12v plug in rear for fridge/freezer, and 2 seperate 12V points for lights, dvd or what ever else is required.

Getting alarm and central locking as we speak - and being stripped I will be able to see exactly what they did

Next is the wiring on the electric windows - still praying for good auto leckie to do this.

Re-upholstiring all the door panels and rear door panels and will be putting in new carpets. - question what can I use as sound proof as the old carpet is vrot!!!

Hi had mine at a shop that removed the carpets and fitted a heat shield material as well as thicker, veld. I now have less noise as well as heat getting into the troll especially from the gearbox area. Vist a good sound shop and they can assist yo

I have also spent a large amount of time, insulation the gearbox and gear lever. I now have no noise comming through there and the heat from the box is kept out. Suggest you no the same. It is well worth it.

Thanks guys. So it seams it's not a problem with big hole somewhere sucking in sand but rather just something to get used to! I am going to put some sound proofing under the rubber. I am actually planning to replace all the carpets with some rubber rather. But I'll first see how this works out and what surprises I find under the old carpets!

im going to be using a sound deadener called Dynamat, it also shields heat.
