Russ, you have got balls, I would never do this on my own, I admire you. But I must say you were kitted and had the right vehicle. I am planning a trip for 4x4s from Gauteng in March 2013 to Cape Town. Have been in contact with the AAWDC guys and they are looking for cheap accomodation for us. We want to ask that the Cape guys take us around and show us their nice spots. There is a public holiday on the Tuesday, so maybe some of the guys can take some leave and show us around. Would be nice to have some Nissans from the Cape with us. If you have any ideas, please advise. I know it wont snow then, but with the Cape weather, one never knows. Again, thanks for sharing this with us
I guess Fortune Favours the Brave, but in the same breath i suppose it can turn in you too. I've been up there like this on my own a good few times so i dont particularly feel at threat, but i have over the years worked out exactly what to take with and when, just in case of a breakdown/stuck vehicle/overnight stay, and i know the terrain under the snow and where the dangerous sections are, yes it can be very dangerous, but when i find myself in a position where one more attempt could destroy my vehicle or my life i simply just stop and admire the place im in, make some Coffee , take some pics, and then i turn back. Luckily when you drive a patrol its very rare that happens!
