Client of mine has had two Pathfinders, prior to that a Patrol. His last Pathy had over 260k km without hassle - mostly overlanding use not 4x4 trail.Grant wrote:
The Trolls as heavy and with the turbo lag the Navara has the gearbox is going to take a hammering.
People always talk about the Patrol being heavy...it's not or more likely it's not the only heavy Nissan.
Pathfinder diesel my license mass is 2340kg. According to UM, Patrol diesel 3.0 is 2355kg. Petrol 2390kg.
The 2.5 engine came out in 2002, not 05. According to Nissan it's been one of their most reliable motors. Case in point, mine a couple of months ago swallowed water and mud (no snorkel and croc waters) - my filter was soppingly dirty and grimey ON TOP...I drove home 1300km at 120-140 GPS with the 1.2t trailer and used 13l/100km with 265/7x/17 MUDS. Since, I've fitted a snorkel had injectors etc all checked without issue. Not cheap to repair but not easy to break. Compared to my dad's D3, fil d3, bil's BMW's and KIA and neighbours hiluxes and Prado I've pushed my car faster (sustained) and slower (LR) and rougher (trails, rivers) then them all combined and had zero engine issues over the last 4 years VS their repairs and maintenance, eish. I've always serviced at Nissan and mine has worked out cheaper then ANY one of them.
Compared to other common rails I'm very impressed. My ideal Patrol would have the V9x and cruiser 105 specs.
In saying that though, offroading, the turbo lag could cause annoying problems with a Patrol - not weight wise. I used to find it had TOO much torque. The petrol 4.8 lays it out "easier" for off road use. The tyres could spin very easy due to lack of TC but as you mention you looking at an auto.
And yes I'm still looking at a Patrol when 2nd baby is born and money hopefully comes in...but as a second 4x4.
