Hi
Just wondered if anyone was planning to head up into Damaraland/Kaokoland next June. I travel solo (I am from the UK) and have experience of Southern and Central Namibia but anywhere north of Sesfontein seems likes pushing my luck on my own. I drive a Patrol here at home and down into the Sahara, but in Namibia it makes more sense to hire. Shipping my Troll to Namibia would cost the thick end of 50000 Rand, so sadly not worth it. Can't find anywhere that will rent out a Patrol though, so will be looking for the next best thing - a Landcruiser.
Any advice or tips on northern Namibia would be much appreciated.
Many thanks to everyone who responded to my request for advice on fitting the second battery. Just can't fit it under the bonnet as it would mean re-routing all the brake lines and other things - way too expensive.

Re: Damaraland next June
I did it 2 years ago Trip Report
For me that is the most beautifull part of Namibia. We joined up with a couple from France in a hired Hilux which was well equiped with everything from a fridge to rooftop tents. My only advise would be to get a GPS with Tracks4Africa maps and go do it
Lots of info here as well although some of the comments are in Afrikaans

Re: Damaraland next June
Thanks David. I liked your trip report. I will certainly have T4A and GPS with me. I was encouraged by the fact that you made this trip without another vehicle with you. I was a bit worried about the driving conditions but a bit happier after your trip report. Thanks for the 4x4 community link - I will be taking a look later today.
