Pump lubed or Splash lubed?

Post by Russ Kellermann »

Hi guys, is the FS5R50B gearbox (GU Patrol) running sealed bearings? and are they pump lubed or splash lubed.

(This is a question from a friend of mine - i didn't have time to research, but i always assumed the gearbox was splash lubed considering the old technology with these units.) ???

Russ.

Russ, there is no mention of an oil pump in the manual of the FS5R50A. Also, on this gearbox there is a seperate rear mail oil seal, indicating that the bearings would probably not be sealed.

Unfortunately I have no idea how much they changed from A to B gearbox.

Pete as far as im aware the TB42 also used the 50B box, it was only the RD28 that used the smaller 30A box.

I have established that the 50B box is splashed lubed a there is no pump to my records and others.
But would these bearings be sealed or not? Based on what peter has said i would tend to agree, not sealed.

Russ, from what I can make out in the manual I would also say 'Not Sealed'. For me it would make sense as they get lubed by the gearbox oil.
