Re: REPLACEMENT BULBS/GLOBES
Hi Driko,
130 w gobes are available and with our local traffic guys, they would not know the differance. The main reason I went to HID's was to reduce the power consumption.
I had
2 x 100 w headlights
2 x 130 w spots.
I now have 2 x 35w HID's and the offer beeter performance than the 100 w head lights. Also when switching on the KC's with 130 W globes, they are barely noticable. I am very happy with the HID's and well worth it.

Re: REPLACEMENT BULBS/GLOBES
Guys i know 130s are available , i actually think the KCs come stndard with them but as far as aftermarket 130/90 H4 globes are concerned they have been outlawed according to several supplieers that i spoke to today , yes they might be available but def not at the gusy i spoke to
130 H1 or H3 for spots yes i know they are out there , same rule applies though at the mainstream suppliers , heck most dont even list them anymore as they are to scared to get into trouble if they sell them
Grant i fully agree the power consumption is the motivation behind HID but you have a vehicle where you can chage the headlight enclosure to one suited for HID , most other vehicles dont
I look for the article this weekend on why HID doesnt really work that well in standard reflectors

Re: REPLACEMENT BULBS/GLOBES
I don't know how legal or not, they can defenately not determain the difference. I had my driving lights replaced with
130/100 watt globes and 130watt spotlight globes. When i took the Troll for roadwoarthy test in December they tested it at
The AA testing centre and they said it all in spec. As i was prepared with the old ones on standby in the toolbox. They tested the dimms, brights, spots then brights and spots on together.
They just told me as well that there may not be more than 3 driving lights per side, and that the extra lights may not exceed the hight of the factory original lighting.
So till atherwise proven wrong, i will stay with the 130watt's.

Re: REPLACEMENT BULBS/GLOBES
Aries , i know they dont have the tools to see the diffenrence and that works to our benefit but i do knwo of some of the newer and more advanced headlight setting systems that will actually redlight a loight if its too bright but i doubt that we will see those in the country for years to come
Either way legal or illegal do we really care as long as you have good bright properly adjusted lights it doesnt really matter does it ?

Re: REPLACEMENT BULBS/GLOBES
What is the right spec for getting LED lights for the rear stop lights? Looking at replacements as the others generate too much heat and can cause issues in the long run?
Any good place in Centurion we could get these for a reasonable price?
Thanks

Re: REPLACEMENT BULBS/GLOBES
Speak to Herman at La Sport Centurion i think they sell Fox and Sons and they manufacture LED globe replacements , you will need a Double Contact off set pin style globe with Dual Filaments for lack of a better term in the lED terminology

Re: REPLACEMENT BULBS/GLOBES
I am using HID in my Mazda 2003. Now it is %300 brighter than before.Dr Chris wrote:Thanks guys this is very helpful - again!
Peter: HID's are what I am really looking for! Thanks for the correction!
To comment: I have also fitted the patrol with indicator and tail lights (upper and lower) using standard bulbs at the back, and these work brilliantly! So I will keep them as is.
I think my main concern must focus on the head lights and also the spot lights.
To reply to this: Costing of the replacements is a worry, and R2500 is high for me, when I currently use the spots in combo with high beams (only).
Andries also alludes to my point about being conned and purchasing only to find that it becomes a waste of time and money?
Driko: I am grateful for your help again! And I think that Grant's guidance is worthy of exploring and this may be the route to follow?
Chris

Re: REPLACEMENT BULBS/GLOBES
130W bulbs are available at 4x4 Megaworld. They also stock a variety of alternatives.
Personally I find that if the lights are too bright the reflection from road signs become problematic.
