DC-DC Charger installation

Post by Unkredible »

Has anyone installed a BC 12-12 15 into a patrol? If so, where did you install the unit? I have ripped out the National luna system as it is incapable of managing a deep cycle, and am installing a DC-DC system, which should ideally be in the cab somewhere... I have considered under / behind the centrre console / in the passenger footwell. Would like to hear from other who have done similar?
Thanks Man!!! QQQ

Jules,

That excludes the Battery and wire, battery bracket.

From the PBE web site,

Basic system

SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS:

MacroMaxi Split Charging Controller, Heavy Duty Fuse Holder, 50 A Fuse
Single-Bar, Dual Function Battery Capacity Monitor (Dual Battery Monitor)
Necessary Consumables (Lugs, fitting screws, cable ties etc.)

A very basic auxiliary battery charging system, but yet the most powerful of its kind. Recommended for much quicker dual battery charging at high current. This heavy duty system, activated by the single-bar, dual function battery monitor or control switch, does not interfere with any standard vehicle wiring.

The system will automatically detect when an auxiliary battery is connected & if the alternator is running. The system will activate charging to the auxiliary battery (or batteries) if the alternator is capable to charge the auxiliary battery (or batteries) as well. No timers are used, thus no time is wasted, charging can start within 20 seconds & the system will respond immediately (cut out charging to prevent alternator overload) when necessary.

The MacroMaxi Charging Controller protects the vehicle alternator from over-loading, disconnecting the load (auxiliary battery) when over-loading occurs. 50 Amp safety fusing used for that extra security (unforeseen circumstances). Heavy Duty Fuse Holder is dust- & waterproof, tight contact, which means best current flow with minimal resistance.

Full System is.

Dual Battery Charging System: Complete System - Full Kit

SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS:

MacroMaxi Split Charging Controller, Heavy Duty Fuse Holder, 50 A Fuse
Single-Bar, Dual Function Battery Capacity Monitor (Dual Battery Monitor)
Auxiliary Battery Kit:
- Battery Box (loading bay) / Battery Bracket* (engine bay)
- MiniMaxi Discharging Controller (Battery Protector, low battery level power cut-out unit)
- 50 Amp Safety Fusing (Protection at sources, in all Battery Boxes manufactured by PBE)
- Auxiliary Battery of 105 A.h. (Deep Cycle)
- 4 Auxiliary Plug Points* (Lockable Fridge, Hella, Cigarette Lighter, Brad Harisson) - Battery Box
Necessary Cabling & Consumables (Lugs, Screws / Bolts, Battery Clamps, Cable ties etc.)

*Battery Bracket (engine bay installation), MiniMaxi Discharging Controller, 2 Auxiliary Plugs (plug box)

The Full Auxiliary Battery Charging Kit is extremely popular, containing everything a complete dual battery system needs to operate properly. This kit offers the best value for money, as it consists of everything in accessories needed for effective auxiliary battery charging, battery and vehicle protection, equipped with protected plug points (various plugs & connectors) to supply camping freezers, lights, air pumps etc. with battery (12 V DC) power.

Shalom

Jules, as Tinus mentioned I have PBE in my car. I have also installed it in a couple of my buddie's cars.

As my dad has NL in his car, I have had ample opportunity to compare, and there is just no comparison whatsoever.

I have also done business with both Pieters (father and son are both Pieter). The son is the designer, but dad does most of the work (I think). They really are professional, friendly and service-oriented.

I went to their home once on a friday evening at around 19h00 hours, with a "problem". It turned out that all it was was me not properly understanding the working of the system. Pieter Snr. spent about 40 minutes patiently explaining the workings to me and testing and evaluating my system, made some recommendations and didn't charge me a sent!

I continue to be a huge fan of both the system and the suppliers.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.
