My patrol has developed an oil and water leak.I removed the intercooler last night to get a better view but I'm still not sure where its coming from.
There was some oil in the top intercooler pipe a s well as at the bottom of the intercooler not sure if this is normal.
The upper head gasket looks good and does not seam to be leaking buts lots of oil below that.
I have attached some pics maybe somebody can help. Does anybody know of a reliable place where I could take my patrol to in the JHb area?
As far as the water leak goes I noticed that the car started overheating recently after I topped up the antifreeze and installed spot lights. I then replaced the inlet gasket from the radiater as well as the thermostat. The water pump was also replaced before I purchased the car 4 months ago and looks new as the outer casing is nice and shiny.
I also drained the radiator and flushed out with water a couple of times and then put in new good quality antifreeze from Castrol. The car is stil overheating but not as bad , that's when I notced that there is a very small leak just behind the alternator seeping behind the steel gasket betwwen the timming chain cover an the head from what I can see.

Re: Oil and water leak on my 3.0DI
I checked the waterpipe behind the alternator and it's not leaking there. It seems the leak is just in front of that between the head and timing chain cover I think.Looks like lot's of labour to strip everthing to replace the steel gasket.
Could such a small leak cause the car to overheat?
As far as the oil leak goes can't find where its comining from but could be related to the same gasket on the opposte side of the motor.Strange thing is that the oil is lying just below the copper injection pipes that bolt onto the head.Is it possible for oil to be leaking there?

Re: Oil and water leak on my 3.0DI
If you want to have a local radiator shop or i can help if you could get it around to Centurion do a pressure test on the water system , this might show you excactly where the leaks is as you should see the water drip out under pressure
As for the oil , since i fitted my catch can and cleaned the motor up i have seen a lot less OIL LEAKS -
Check ou t my setup in the post New Intercooler , you can see the catch can there and its a world of difference in my opinion
