Qoute : Cant seem to start new topic so I will use this one. Can somebody help. After our day with Grootseun and his team I took the Patrol to an exhaust place to see if it had a leak at the Manifold. And yes it had two cracks, which was welded and fixed. Now while there the friendly chap told me that he thought the the aircleaner for the 4.8, which is still standard is too small and I should find one that will let more air in. This is my question, what is the best at a budget price? Then he also said that manifolds do crack due to age. The vehicle has 195 000 kms on. Now what can one do again at budget as one could have the whole thing redone at a huge price and is that worth it. As I rate your technical knowledge on this site as superior , can I sak for help. Nico , some might argue with me but more isnt always better , we used to perform various mods on our aircleaners on our racecars for more airflow etc etc
In the end of the day your engine can only use a set amount of air and this is determned by factors such as engine size , cylinder head flow characteristics and exhaust flow characteristics , if it is true that the 4.8 has a restrictive air filter then yes fititng something with better flow would be beneficial but you must be carefull - almost all of the higher flowing filters are cotton and oil type filters ( K&N , simota etc ) and these are not really the best for your off road vehicle unless you fit aditional foam and oil outer filters or so called prefilters

Id much rather invest my time and money into CAI - or cold air induction which alowd colder air to be force fed into the filter - in 4x4 apps like the patrol fitting a snorkel would bet you cleaner and colder air

Personally ive gone the route of experimenting with a higher flow rate filter and CAI on my Hardbody , i fabbed up everything myself as i wanted to be sure of the benefits before forking out the money for the imported kit - the benefit i can hardy see in the fuel bill , motor does revs a bit more freely and sounds like something that belongs to 19year old boy racer and i lost my bottom ebd torque because of the bigger filter the venturi effect in the origanal fliter design that icreased air velocity is no longer so i now have less bottom end

As for the exhaust , as long as you have a decent builder let hom set you up with a proper branch , you wont notice a lot of hp more as the rest is still standard but it wont crack as easilly in the mild steel version as teh cast OE one does

Die BESTE BESTE air cleaner wat jy op 'n 6-silinder Nissan kan sit is die Donaldson - soos wat in die vorige VG 30 HardBody gekom het - hy pas maklik en di epyp aanpassing is maklik EN JY KRY "N SPONS met olie filter vir hom [jy was die filter, smeer spes olie .. en die lewenslank gewaarborg ] maar sy filter is vrylik beskibaar

Grootseun ek sal belangstel en sal dan met jou praat vir vroeg in Januarie, net as ek terug is by die werk, gaan so bietjie weg die week. Sal jy hom ook fit. Kan jul die komputer op die patrol stel sodat sy verbruik en sy performace beter is, want ek het nou aan die uitlaatstelsel verander en as die aircleaner verander sal sy settings seker aangepas moet word of hoe. Ek maak staat op jul advies. Nico

Nico , ek sal jou help om hom te fit ja

Die 4.8 is EFI en het na my kennis geen basis verstellings nei , jy moet of die MAP in die ECU verander of jy moet CHIP - ek doen nie een van die twee nie
Die sisteem behoort redelik goed te werk met die twee aanpassings synde nie een van hulle major is nie , daarna kan jy kyk na mapping of chipping , ek sal as ons dit oorbou vir jou die verkille verduidelik en ook my opinie gee
