Patrol Spy Picture
I found this Patrol and it looks like a personnel carrier but I think it could be converted into an awesome camping/overlanding vehicle.
It is open from the front seats to the rear.

Kobus did you happen to check the GVM on the licence disk? Just a pity the rear overhang is so long, as the departure angle will be terrible. The second fuel cap seems to indicate that it may have quite a long range too?
Do you know if it has an intercooled turbo engine?

the two tanks are standard on those 4.2 td i think its got a cooler but not sure bogeyman has the same one but no turbo

i checked again the door says 4.2 turbo diesel intercooled i talk under correction but it takes 200l of diesel at 6km per liter you can go for a while !!!!!

Yes it has got an intercooler - it seems the same as the normal bakkie.
The rear end is a bit long and should be done at a bit more of an angle.

Unfortunately the 4.2TD in South Africa only puts out 5kw more than the normally aspirated version....seems kind of pointless to me. You add extra weight, parts to service and heat, but none of the benefits....not exactly a great move. I wish we would get the TD42T in the same tune as they get in Aus!

coming back from moz in desember i saw a guy at komanti poort with a 4.2tdi pulling a monster boat 28ft with one that he got from aus .(he does hunting in botz and imported the pic up from his home land )
it had coils all around and the more powerful 4.2 tdi it was a real monster with big tires and it had that funny back on like most utility bakkies there !!!!
a real pitty that we don't get them here !!!!

This vehicle is the standard SA Spec Patrol pickup (TD 42t - low pressure turbo and intercooler producing 90 kw - more of just an altitude compensator actually)
The fuel capacity is 90l main tank and 85l sub tank as standard.
Obviously the bodywork on this vehicle has bee modified.
If someone were to ask me if i like the look of this vehicle, i'd certainly say NO! Its a hideous rendition of a landcruiser troopy, poorly executed unfortunately. But thats just MY opinion. Look, the pickup is a bit of a Wayne Rooney to start with, so its a tough ask to fab it into something else in the hopes of making an improvement, this is that example.
Note 1:
SA Spec pickups usually return fuel figures of around 7-8km per litre. The worst i've ever got is 6.6 km/l fully loaded, stuff on the roof, lots of hills,altitude, 4x4 etc running on 285's mudds, but normally i get around 7.3 - 7.8 km/l
Note 2:
The Australian Spec pickup (ute) is offered in leaf option (leaf cab chassis) or coil (coil cab chassis) at the rear. Most being sold in coil format obviously, except tradesmen and governmental issued vehicles as they need to carry weight/tow , which is rated higher with leaf springs. Another thing is that the leaf spring option,like south africa, uses a true fully floating rear axle with the huge H260 rear diff, whereas the wagons and coil cabs use the semi floating H233 rear diff, still huge and strong, but not like the H260.
The tray back on the Auzzi spec patrol is something i actually like very much,I am planning to evenutually convert my pickup to use a tray back like that offered as standard on Auzzi spec pickups, i think it looks better and saves all the pannel scratches, its also easier to load stuff as the bed is flat. I'll combine it with my alucab, reckon it'll really transform the look of a SA Spec patrol pickup.

Not quite so, Russ. The older fuel injected manual 4.5 wagons and the manual 4.8 wagons also have the H260 four spider rear diff. That H260 is a massive monster of a diff: If I recall correctly, the "260" in the designation denotes the crown wheel diameter in mm (260mm = 10.24"), compared to the 9.5" diameter crown wheel on, say an 80 Series Cruiser. The H233B, as used in the front of the pick-up or the wagons would have a crown wheel diameter of 233mm or 9.17", compared to the 80 Series Cruiser's 8" front crown wheel diameter. Crown wheel size is not everything, but it is a jolly good starting point in making a strong differential. (Another important point is not to try to get too much reduction out of the final drive and end up with small gear teeth or poor overlap ratios.
