OME Suspension noise?

Post by CarloG »

hi guys,

I finally did the deed and put in the Old man emu suspension in December. Since then it makes a sort of creaking / moaning noise when i go over speed bumps. (and other bumps like rocks etc) I have read on forums that this does sometimes happen and that some q20 shoudl sort it out. It hasnt on mine. (although where to spray q20 on a coild and sealed shock is anyones guess.)

Has anyone else had this problem and if so what could be a solution?

This noise is very common.
I hear it all all cruisers with a 2" lift or higher, and on a lot of patrols.
I am of the opinion to steer clear of using Q20, as i am sure its the bushes in the suspension,anti-roll bars and steering linkages (polyurethane or otherwise) that are the cause of the noise, and def not the shocks (they are sealed units using gas and only have one moving part in the form of a piston, not much to creak and groan), and i would think using a product like Q20, as it is very much a liquid, would eat away at the poly bushes once it finds its way in and attracts dust particles which will form a destructive paste.

Not sure on a solution besides checking and replacing ALL bushes ,..... unfortunately lots of guys just live with it.

NOTE: I have noticed that this problem seems to affect the coil sprung wagons moreso than the leaf sprung pickups (both in Patrols and Cruisers) , this leads me to believe that this stems form the rear suspension components rather that the front.

It is indeed the suspension bushes. It happens as aresult of the suspension lift which caused the bushes to take in a slight new position compared to the position they got used to over time. If it is not nessesary to replace them, just live with it.

Loosen up front and rear panhard rod bolts and nuts( 2 per arm), front caster bush bolt and nuts(4), rear upper and lower arms-left and right- bolts and nuts(8).Just loosen not out and then bounce vehicle a little front and rear, tighten everything up again. Most of the time the noise is gone! Most fitment centers don't do this! :surprised:
Works for me 99% of the time.
