Louis,

I am going to try and put it in layman's terms - your viscus fan when engaged should be sucking air through the radiator - not blowing onto the radiator. The Patrol fan can litterally be fitted the wrong way around on the viscus coupling - mine was. So if somebody did replace fan belts or took the fan off for whatever reason it is a very simple mistake that can be made.

Hope this helps.

Pieter,

Die radiators is in "aftermarket" beskikbaar hier in Bobbejaansberg @ ongeveer R2600 teenoor ongeveer R15000 vir 'n nuwe 4.8 radiator by Nissan.

Dankie
Peter

Peter,

Hello Irfaan

If you look at the fan, you will see the blades are curved. The curve is designed to catch air that is virtually at a standstill, and accelerate it through the radiator. If you turn the fan around, the curv works against you and airflow is reduced significantly.

Have you cleaned the air-con radiator? if it is blocked, air may not get to the radiator?

Irfaan, Peter is spot-on - your observation is correct only for flat bladed fans. When they are curved, it does make a difference if they are mounted back-to-front!

I also had some over-heating issues that were greatly reduced by fitting a genuine (i.e. from my local Nissan dealer) thermostat. The Nissan part had the same temperature rating as the after-market one that was fitted before, but for some reason it made a difference. On a diesel (you don't mention what you drive) you also need to make sure that your fueling and timing is spot-on.

BTW: I know what the ME summers get like... I once drove from Dubai to Abu Dhabi in mid-summer in a black car without AC and only just lived to tell the tale! I was really hoping that some of the guys who live there could teach us how to keep our cars cool in summer? :rolling:

Yes,the blades stay at the same pitch or angle. If the blades were straight it would make no differance. But in this case the blades are concave,so if you fit the fan wrong the pitch will be the same but the concave or dish will face the other way and it will not be effective.Just like Peter explained. So becarefull for IMPOSSIBLE ,maybe that's your overheating your are looking at it but its impossible. Before you change more parts, change your mechanic.
