Nissan Service

Post by JohannD »

Planned to post this in January already. Our family was on holiday down in the Cape during December. On 20 December my Patrol broke down. After some investigation (I had the workshop manual with me) I came to the conclusion that the seal on the power steering hydraulic pump failed. As we were in Mossebay I phoned Ronat Nissan. After a few calls between myself and the lady at the service department it came down the following: Ronat Nissan was prepared look at my problem on 28 December at the earliest. As we were planning our return on 31 December, I decided to fix the pump myself. I called Ronat again and the lady at the service department agreed to order the parts for me if I bring the pump the next day to them.

While studying the manual my brother in law suggested that I phone the Nissan dealer in George. I phoned DTM Nissan in George. What a difference, the lady at the service department told me to bring the the vehicle to them as soon as possible. I delivered my Patrol to them around 16H30. I spoke to the person who was going to perform the job. Kotie Liebenberg, the workshop foreman told we "enige iets oom net nie die gearbox nie, ons was laas 7 ouens en kon hom nie uitkry nie". We discussed the job in detail and he promised to finish the work on 21 December. I was sceptical as I know parts can be a problem on the Patrol. I promised (rather threatened) to be on their case as from 10H00 the next morning. I kept my promise and phoned 10H00 the next morning, they stuck to their guns "We will finish your car today". I received a call at 14H30 from Annadi the lady at the workshop with the words "Your car is finished". I was too scared to ask what the bill was. What a surprise, the bearing and seals was replaced at a total cost of R 1532.73. I would take the Patrol back to them any day.

It would be fantastic if we had a plan to keep them where they are.

Hi Johann,
I am delighted that someone like you takes the trouble to name the good (and bad) guys, and this is a very useful bit of information that will go into my memory bank for travel in the future. I am convinced that such good service will not go unrecognised.
Sadly the bad service you had is a dead cert for me, and well documented to avoid in the future!
Regards,
Chris.
