Which Roof rack
Hi Guys
I am looking into getting a roofrack. Which make and what do I need to look out for. I have a sunroof and would like to fit gasbottle and jerry cans on top.
Do they go in the gutter i.e no hole anywhere?. I never had one before and need some info please.
Regards
Arnold

Re: Which Roof rack
Hi Arnold

Groete

Re: Which Roof rack
Hi Pieter
Sal bietjie soos minitaxi lyk. OF ek moet vir my 'n 4x4 bagasie waentjie kry.
Groete

Re: Which Roof rack
Hi Arnold
I have the full size baby. Fits into the gutters. It has a "Trap Door" above the Sunroof so that you can still get access to the roof. My wife love standing out the sunroof taking pictures - unfortunately not of the roofrack so I can't post pictures. Picked it up on the Junkmail for R4k5 with brackets, spade and jerrycans.
You do need to be 2 x people to lift anf fit the roofrack but it is quite sturdy and I haven't experienved any wind noise.
Happy hunting!

Re: Which Roof rack
Arnold,

Groete

Re: Which Roof rack
@ Rocstompa : Where did you buy yours from and price? I want to get the same for exactly the same reasons however I have one additional problem...my damn garage door just allows my Patrol to go through with approx. 40mm clearance...yes that close!

Re: Which Roof rack
Hi Langman
I have an African Outback roofrack which sits much lower than the standard one. I bought it second-hand. It was originally built for a Landy Disco 2 which has a very high roof, and I cut the brackets shorter. you will also have to unbolt the top ring.
Cheers
Peter

Re: Which Roof rack
Hello Stefan
The roofrack itself remained completely unchanged. The mounting brackets are bolt-on items, and then there are feet with clamps that bolt onto the mounting brackets. I just cut the brackets as short as possible and then drilled new holes for the feet and clamp units. As the rain gutters are not completely flat, I drilled the middle two feet (my rack is 2.2m long and has six feet) put it together and placed it back on the car, and then drilled the holes for the other feet to follow the contour of the gutter. But if you get the shorter rack it only has four feet anyway, so it becomes even easier.
Cheers
