Thanks Pieter

I had the opinion that HID's were much more expensive than that, and hadn't even thought about it further. For that type of money I will certainly consider it. What type of shop did you buy from? I know people lyke Autostyle sell such things, but I am always a bit worried about buying tech from people like that?

I beleive jules will be in the Kruger then, but I will be in golden gate on the 22nd, having come up through Lesotho?

Cheers
Peter

Peter,

I bought mine from a local shop in CT that specialises in anything and everything that has t do with motor cars - you can literally build up a car from everything you can buy there - except the actual body, chassis and engine!!

I think with the HID's I can safely say you could buy them from a place like auostyle - because it comes in a omplete kit and there is nothing extra you need to buy and is a very simple DIY installation. Just check that you do get the 6000K type - it is indicated on the box. And then obviously the right type H4, H3 or H2.

It is very possible though that prices will vary from shop to shop - these things are imported and no locally manufactured - thus depending on exchange rates it could make a difference.

Hope you come right - if not give me a buss and I can always check here for you. I was at the shop earlier this week and they stll sell the H4's for R895-00 - if it wansn't for my holiday on hands now I wold have bought a set fo my car already. But that R895-00 will go a long way towards my holiday for now.....

Peter and Jules

Here is some pics of the HID Kit Box - just for some info.

For what it is worth to perhaps give you some info. The installation looks even more complicated on the box than it really is.

Thanks Pieter, I really appreciate it.

Like your other cars, mine will have to wait untill I get back from my trip though.

Jules with this much light for that much money I doubt that putting in Golf lights is even worth the trouble.
Cheers

Gents I was at Autostyle Sunday in Durbs picked up my daughter from Skelmbos, R795 for the H4, HID kit. Pieter will it fit into my current housing? the indian fella who helped me an all was not to sure an all.

The best is probably to get it fitted by a reputable electrical workshop.

Me thinks me will first buy HID kit and see how it performs.

That is a good price - you will not easily find it cheaper!!! If your car uses H4 type bulbs I am 100% convinced you will not have a problem fitting them into your current housing - they are meant to be a straight swop and I have not heard of anybody that had to do modifications to get them to fit. Thus Jules - I think you will be wasting QQQ money :naughty: if you have it fitted by an electrical workshop - unless the shop can do it for you at a very reasonable price - like in less than 200 bucks!! Invite me for a beer and I will do it whilst we have a cold one  - pity you so far.

One thing though - be very careful with the bulbs itself and prevent yourself from touching them - they should be handled the same way as halogen type bulbs. If you do get it - please let me know your feedback - but I can once again assure you this is the light of all lights to be driving around with.

I doubt it that there is anything better out there in terms of 12V lights than HID's.

tANKS Pieter

I spoke to the owner of LA Sport here in RBay since his shop is 4 shops from a A1 Sparesshop here in RBay ( he sells the same but for R950 these Indian an all make there own price). Righart from LA Sport told me that I must just watch out some of these HID systems get made in China and the real macoy gets made in Germany. He says the only problem he has with HID the brights take a while to shine at its brightest ( needs time to warmup ) and he showed me on his vehicle.

I then strolled down the road to 4X4 Megaworld where the IPF H4 headlights sets are , so now I am more confused than Pieter De Villiersof who to chose for the world cup?? :rolling:

Jules,

Like I said in a previous post....decisions decisions decisions. It is almost as bad as when moving house......location location location!!

My best advice to you is......its your money - you must decide what is going to work for you. I have not seen the IPF H4's at "work" - so I can't comment about it. But I can very assured say I still want to see a set of lights that out performs Hid's.

Yes it is true that the Hid's takes time to warm up - but that is as far as I am concerned insignificant. I have not timed it - but you are talking a mere couple of seconds - as far as I am concerned it's not even worth mentioning. If you fill up at a petrol station and you start up and drive off - before you hit the main road the lights are at normal "working" temperature - so really!!

The unfortunate thing is......if you buy the IPF's (or Hid's for that matter) and you feel it does not work for you and you want to change it again - well then it becomes an expensive excercise.

So all in all (like the indians say) - you must decide what you think is best for you.

Regards and good luck - and let us know your decision (and satisfaction) !!!!

Morning everyone

Yesterday I bought the Hella lights for the Golf 1 , took out my GQ lights and tried to install the Hella . BUT THEY DO NOT FIT :surprised: , one will have to drill a few holes here and there. The holes would need to be drilled into the body since the current back housing section of my GQ headlight has some extentions which this Hella does not have? Are there different Series 1 Golf's around ?
