Rear Steel Bumpers.

Post by Margo »

Ok Guys, so since my little incident, I need to take car in for assesment. However I would like to get the Steel Bumpers that you are all coaxing me on to fit instead of the plastic ones they would repair with.

Um... So... After much googling and trying to do this myself, I admit, I need you guys to please tell me where on earth to get???? Any websites I can go to?

Help? Please? :helpsign:

LA Sport has got one - check the Patrol in the new Leisure Wheels - but is expensive.

There is a thread on this site for rear bumpers - different makes.

Hi Margo,

Contact Coenraad at Rasper 4x4 . I am having one made for my Troll, but do not want wheel carriers, so it will be alot cheaper.

Hey Margo

Search for threads on steel rear bumpers (you can search "burnco" too). I did a lot of research into this, only to come to the conclusion that for me
1. Other more NB items to acquire
2. Expensive
3. No one readily makes for Patrol unless you buy through 4x4MW or LA Sport or Safari Centre in Fourways (main road) but they are the most expensive (like north of R16K)
4. Best priced and nice looking was lynx4x4 (ForFours previously) in South JHB and probably good option if you just want rear bumper no carrier for around R9K-R10K
5. Strongest Burnco and im sure they have jig for the Patrol bumper, but they're in CPT. Customers of Burnco sware by him. Not pretty looking, but some like the heavy steel look... it looks as strong as it really is. Other guy in CPT that has done Patrol is R&D and he also has great reputation.
6. Other places you'll need to leave your Patrol for a while for development (Richard at Big Country 4x4 in Randburg) who does plenty landies and cruisers), Onca on East Rand (who do plenty toyotas)
7. The are obviously a few others... and Im sure like Kagiso and Peter Connan there are other members on the forum who can assist through other channels.

I did EXACTLY the same as you did at de Wildt, except it was the right rear light, and the damage a little worse. I took my Patrol and got both the right and left plastic bumpers reconditioned at Plastic Repair Specialists in Strijdom Park for R800. 011 7929369

Good luck

Hi Guys,

Thank you for the replies. My insurance has come back saying that the damage is R9.2k

I have asked them to look into getting a steel bumper for me instead of just replacing and fixing the left bumper. Will see what they say. I Will however give them all the details that I have received here, if that is alright with you?

Margo,

I do not know who your insurer is, however my insurance company replaced my original Nissan front bumper with my choice, Burnco, front bumper after my car were involved in an agressive difference of opninion with my front gate. In fact, the Burnco bumper cost less than the Nissan bumper, including shipment from CT, paint and fitment.
