Clutch required
My 2001 TD42 needs a new clutch, but the good people that maintain my car for me say they are unable to source one from Nissan; we must wait three weeks for it to be brought into the country. Does anybody know where I can get one sooner? This mechanic advises to stick to the Nissan part and I'm inclined to agree. What is the advice from the users of this website?

Re: Clutch required
Stick with the Nissan Original - I have a friend who also has a TD42 - gone through several clutches and eventually reverted back to the Nissan original.

Re: Clutch required
I have an LuK clutch....it works, but as Pieter says, the original is better!
The LuK kit (listed as a Nissan Cabstar kit) seems to make the gearbox noisy when in neutral.....something to do with the spring rates not being quite right as far as I understand. I`ve done about 50k kms with the LuK kit so if you have to have something sooner it can work. The noise is a bit annoying (I stand corrected but I don`t think it has any implications other than the irritation value) so I will use the agent part next time around.
Not sure if that helps?

Safari Tuff Clutch, used by all the comp guys in the Outback Challenge and other comps in Aus and NZ. Can be purchased locally, cheaper than Nissan, more expensive than other aftermarket crap.

Re: Clutch required
I've got a Genuine Nissan Patrol Heavy duty clutch in my TD42 (the one with 5 springs, not 3) ,and it works great, might be worth the effort and wait. With the heavy duty clutch though you gonna find it amplifies all the gearbox noises, which can be irritating to the ear, but the Auzzie guys all run them too ?..... and they all get the TD42 rumble which is well known ..

Hi there- Green Td. Welkim hier tussen ons - where are the pictures of your ride ??? Hmmm???
O K - if you are in/around Pretoria - the get hold of Paul at "Menlyn Brake & Clutch" - 012 9987795
and insist on a VALEO clutch [not LUK and Sachs ... not so good on in my opinion]
Else .. wait for the genuine thing.. as for me??? I would have been and gone at Paul already.

Re: Clutch required
Wow, thanks guys. That's a lot of reaction in short time. The one that needs replacement is the original and it has done 180k, which is probably enough reason to replace with original, but having to wait for one is irritating, as this car is a daily driver. I left an inquiry about Safari Tuff on the Steve's Auto Clinic website and I will contact Menlyn Brake & Clutch soon as I can. For now, I'm in Gaborone weekdays which kind of limits comms options.
Yes, I will take a picture someday.

Have you had any success with that clutch?
Seeing that mine is on the way out.
