I struggled to keep my hand held radios charged, and decided to build a "charging dock" with a space for 220v and 12v. When at home I plug a lead into the vehicle that then keep all the hand held radios charged and ran the fridge at the same time, saving the 2nd battery in the rear. An upgrade for this is to fit a caravan plug or a kettle plug somewhere with easy access to plug in and out without having to open the small door:

A while ago I also received a roof console from Danie in Brits. I finished added what I wanted, eventually carpeted the console and fitted it last weekend. The console includes 2x USB -A plugs and a USB-A and C combination. I also added the LED light at the bottom and fitted the Kenwood VHF radio above the mirror. To clear my dash I also moved the HAM dual band radio face to the console to the side to not interfere with the mirror:

Then lastly, I struggled with overheating for a while, especially when towing. After asking about it on the Patrol WA group after my return from Groblersdal on a very hot day, towing less than 500kg, I got the wheel rowling to see what could be done about the heating of the TD42.

My first visit was to Anthony who assisted me with an upgraded viscus and fan.
Then I went to Michael who replaced my turbo with an Arashi, and at the same time cut out a lof of metal on the bullbar, lowered the intercooler, had the radiator serviced, replaced the thermostat and added a scoop to the bottom of the bullbar that scoop air up into the intercooler and radiator.

I can report that my heating issues are a thing of the past! I recently towed a 3t trailer to Wolkberg and back, all the way 100-110 on the GPS and the hottest the coolant was, was 98 at the top of the Ysterberg close to the Ranch stop. Previously, the temp when I got there, was in excess of 100 degrees, no Aircon, crawling in 3rd gear up the hill nurturing EGT, oil and coolant temps. This time, went up in 4th, at 80kms, EGT low 500's oil temp lower 90's and the coolant top at 98.

After all of this, the wish list contains:
  • Fridge between the seats
  • Build in compressor
  • Considering taking the left half of the rear seat out and replace with storage that will include a removal kitchen unit for when camping with the wife, and/or replace with something search and rescue relevant, but this still needs some clarity
  • And then to go 12mm pump or not.....

Nice one Leon!

I also have a Michael-fitted "BMIC" (Bottom Mounted Intercooler) on Chuck, and it brought the water temperatures down a lot compared to a top mounted setup. But I went one step further and asked Michael to add an external oil cooler too. Now I can storm up any long hill as fast as I want without getting the coolant over 100C or the oil over 110C. Normal highway driving both of them sit at about 75C.

PS: My oil temp sensor is tapped into the rear of the sump, and Michael says they typically read higher in that position than when they are mounted in the sump plug. Where is yours located?

Mine is also located in the rear of the sump. I would rather have a too high reading on the Madman as a safety than too low reading and being caught out.

mooi Leon gooi that 12mm I have 3 cars with 12mm and its really great ...when me and ant drove to vaalwater some time ago with the patrols we checked same diffs 4.66 same tekkies 37 same turbos arhasi TD05 18g and same speed his ego where 150 deg hotter on Ave....it does change your patrol into a chokka when you put foot but just until the boost catches up

At times I am required to run an event or callout from my vehicle as mobile JOC. It is always easier to have a table handy for laptop and taking notes, so with the self made table at the rear I've run an extension cord with multiplug to the rear from a 1000W inverter. It will stay there and I only have to switch the inverter on located behind theft rear seat to power it up.

Running the event or call out means I need to have radio comms. The dual band radio is inside the vehicle and to be able to operate it with the hand mike, I've run a CAT 5 cable from the front to the rear. At the same time, build a plywood box that also accommodate USB A and C and a cigarette plug with a Brad Harrison that is directly linked to the 2nd battery.

Whilst fiddling with the wires and as I have had them available, we installed another cigarette plug and USB A charging point to the rear of the centre console.
