Overlanding - Namibia
Hi
Have done a 17 day trip to Namibia in December. Obviously the days were short to cover the vastness of the country in detail. Being my first visit to the country, kept it brief and visited most of the iconic places.
Route map is below. Overall trip distance was 6658km as per GPS and the fuel consumption is as below. Considering the load of the vehicle and 33inch maxix 811, I would say the consumption is pretty good. I must mention that I have done diff ratio conversion to 4.1 with Tinus help. Cruise control at 100km GPS speed now works as it should, and it doesn't hunt for gears any-more, due to this its less tiring for long distance travelling. All the 5 based readings are gravel roads in Namibia, except the first reading, never had luck with Sasol (initial fill up). Average consumption was as per the log was 5.9

Re: Overlanding - Namibia
Spotted a few wild horses.
Swakopmund and Luderitz was interesting. I have not seen so many Patrols before. I even bumped into a patrol bakkie owner in a petrol station, who converted to BMW diesel engine, which was rather interesting.

Re: Overlanding - Namibia
That I forgot to mention.
I have mixed feelings about Maxxis. On one occasion, I had a puncture on one tire where a nail got into a space between the treads in the centre. Just a few km's after Ethosa there was a side wall damage. Obviously I had to inflate the tire after gravel.
I am not sure how BFG's or coopers would have performed. I will see if I can find a picture of the side wall damage.

I am pretty sure BFG may show less damage from Namibian gravel.ra_01 wrote: ↑09 Jan 2023 06:48 That I forgot to mention.

But factors not considered are the long breaking distance on tarmac and rain, as well as running off the rim at 0.6 bar on a dune.
