Sweetlips' progression

Post by Sweetlips »

I was fortunate enough to get my Patrol, aka Sweetlips, 3 years ago.

When i got the Patrol it had replacement bumpers front and back, stock suspension and wheels.

The 1st upgrade I did to my Patrol was switching from AT to MT tyres. It is just my personal opinion but the best AT is a MT

During Covid I started playing around with the idea of the 2nd upgrade, a drawer system, but a custom 1 in that I had/wanted to retain 1 jump seat as my son made it clear that is his seat.

As I don't have a workshop/working space and the correct tools, it took me a while to deliver the end product but I am happy with it.

With my son growing at an exponential rate, I foresee another upgrade to the drawer system. This time 2 full drawers but I want to increase the height of the drawers by 50 - 100mm to increase the volume.

I must be honest in that when I did my research before buying my Patrol, my mind was made up that in the end I would like a Patrol with a 2" lift with 33s. Fortunately, last year I got to do upgrade #3, that being a 3" lift with some 35s running on some Aline mags thanks to Gerhard, aka Gman, in Noordhoek.

Currently upgrade #4 is ongoing, during a little offroading incident, I damaged my front bumper enough for the insurance company to do a partial payout after a long fight. Again work being done by Gman.

I will post a pic of the end product as soon as I have the Patrol back within the next 2 weeks.

Looking great!

Just get him to add a little perforated or heavy expanded mesh guard between the bottom edge of the new bumper to the chassis cross-member and leading edge of the existing bash plate to protect the radiator from sticks and stuff?

So, the bumper is finally completed. I feel like a kid before his birthday who can't wait to get his hands on his toy

I can't wait to see the final product in person but I have seen G-mans handywork and it doesn't disappoint.

Also, in love with the 9" spots. Just rounds off the Patrol nicely. Oh and the headlamps and parks have been upgraded to LED's.

Next on the to do list, rocksliders, upgraded/new rear bumper, 4" lift, 37s with the associated diff ratios.

And finally, maybe, just maybe if the wife didn't kill me by then some engine upgrades. One of 2 options to consider, LQ4 vs TB48t.

So last year I was lucky enough to get my long sought after Dirty Life beadlocks fitted. Just love the red beadlock ring.
