What do you think?
Good day Gentlemen
First time commentor, long time reader.
I am looking to purchase a patrol and saw one that popped up locally to where I live.
https://social.webuycars.co.za/public/37ozJb.html
Now I know some of you have probably seen this one before.
I want to know if any one has a professional/personal input towards this find and I need a straight and honest opinion as I feel I'm looking at it with great potential and rainbow eyes. As the price is undeniable and scary at the same time.
There are some electrical issues which abviously can be sorted. My issue is what is under the hood as they say it has oil leaks.
Obviously a enjine convertion to a 4jj1 3.0 is on the horizon as it has the "hand granade" currently in it.
I just need it to drive for the next 3 of years until I have the money's saved up to do the swop.
I can probably get the oil leaks repaired in the mean time right??
I have attached a Pic of the enjine as the add did not prove one.
Looking forward to hearing from you guys.
Thanks

Re: What do you think?
Welcome Heino.
The vehicle looks good. But I am not a diesel 'kenner' and I would be hesitant to buy a 3L of that age. From your post I gather you are aware of the grenade issue as you mention you are planning a swap.
I cannot advise on whether that motor will last +/- 3 years until you are ready for the swap. I am sure somebody more knowledgable on the ZD30 will be around shortly. Or perhaps you can get hold of Frans Fourie (username: tourdefrans here on this forum) to check it out for you. He is the local Patrol Whisperer in your area.

Re: What do you think?
Hi Iandvl
Thanks for the response,
Yah it does look good that's why Iits been messing with my head since I saw it as the price does match the poket.
I've done a fair bit of research regarding the gu model and are aware of the build up issues and the overheating issues.
For now the main goal is just to work and back. Nothing to wild.
Thanks
Heino

Re: What do you think?
Car does look very good doesn't it.
But as already mentioned, it's going to be difficult for anyone to say with any degree of certainty that the existing engine will last another 3 years.
The fact that it is leaking oil makes me think somebody has already had trouble with it, and probably someone on the lower end of the price/quality spectrum.
If you could afford the engine chage right away, I would say this is a good base though.
Have you tried phoning Tinus? He probably knows more about options than anyone else.

Re: What do you think?
Dankie SJC
Gan sommer gou more dit doen
Peter
Unfortunately an immediate swop is not on the cards gonna have to save up on that
. I guess I'll have to take it to a machanic on the test drive.
It's hard to even see where the oil is coming from due to the bad lighting from the show floor.
How would I go about finding Tinus and tour de Frans? I have been referred to them but I have no idea where to start looking for them.

Re: What do you think?
Maar my hart is waarskynlik by jou en Fanus.
