Although they do not have stock of the standard part (21503VC200) for the lower hose, they do have stock of substitute part number (21503VC20A) - also Nissan.

You'll pay a few ZAR for shipment and customs, but you'll probably have new hoses before the weekend.

Just double check the part numbers (enter your VIN number). These part numbers come from the 2003 4.8 Patrol I used to have which the ex-wife wrote off.

Firstly, I know of a couple of these plastic fittings that have failed. Usually the threads around that bolt, but I have heard of at least one where the plastic itself cracked.

I would remove and clean everything and have a good look.

If all the parts seem good, and it is just leaking between the hose and the pipe, I would put SikaFlex on the joints.

I did this on my car where I had problems with the flex tubing sliding off my stainless steel heater hoses, and it works very well indeed.

Thank you so much Peter. I couldn't tell by looking whether the thing was a type of plastic or some sort of anodised metal. I thought the latter but of course, but now that I think about it, it wouldn't very likely be metal, because then the current would flow through the metal and it wouldn't detect a water loss. So now I am practically certain that it is a crack in the housing. A pity and I will have to find an alternative or a replacement. A coolant loss sensor is always a very good idea.

Any idea what brand that unit in the picture is or where I may find a suitable alternative?

MadMan's web-site has changed. Previously it was possible to browse through the adapters they provided.

I imagine the coolant level warning detector you have is this one:

If you look under the "What Else do I Need ?" section, they refer to the Coolant adapters one can use to install the unit, but they do not have specs. You will need to contact them in order to find out what model adapter will work with the Patrol.

I believe it does need to be plastic (or at least non-conductive) unfortunately.

Ant fits lots of these and I am sure either he or Graham should be able to source a replacement.

And because of the requirement for non-conductivity I think the options for fabricating something stronger/more reliable are limited.

Thank you Ian, thank you Peter. It's definitely the MadMan unit. That's Brian Cotton. I actually know him, although I haven't seen him for some years now. I'll see what the siuation is when I have the thing apart and then decide from there what I need to do.

BTW, Tinus is an absolute biscuit. New hose already on the way to me from Terrain Tamer!

just out of interest , the hose set I got from Terrain Taimer worked well, bottom hose comes as one hose where the Nissan is a 2 piece with connector bit. Clem if you can't find a new top hose , I do have a spare upper hose ( my old hose) you can borrow it if you need to check if it is the hose.
