Thanks Ross.....

I'm so stoked about doing my first long trip in the Maiden..... but am a little worried, as I was hoping to have done a few more Km since the rebuild to make sure all is running perfectly before doing the Moz trip. I checked the oil level, and for any leaks/sweating and water leaks and levels and so far all is 100% after 200Km. So if after 200Km all is ok, I can't see that another 1500Km will make any difference...... but still it sits in the back of my mind..... ahhhh .....always the pesimist.....

That is not pessimism, that is smart thinking, just like looking for leaks and problems is smart.
Most engine failures come at two points: after many thousands of km or fairly soon after the engine is built.

That is when any errors in engine building have time make themselves known.

If it were me, I'd drive Iron Maiden around near home for a little while, then undertake a short shake-down trip within easy towing range and keep a sharp eye out for any problems before I started on a long journey.

Africa will still be there.

Most people have a difficulty when it comes to distinguishing between a realist and a pessimist...

Honey....I'm home !!!!!!!!!!

And that motor performed like a dream !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought I would use a bit of oil after 1700Km, but the level is still 100%.

BUT..... the trip was not without issues...... :fire: ....... I noticed even before we left that the starter motor didn't seem to crank the motor over as smoothly and quickly as it did before....I assumed that the motor was a bit tight, and this was the reason..... The first day in Ponta do Oro, and I put the key in the ignition....and nothing...cant even hear a solenoid kick in. If I short out the 2 terminals on the solenoid/starter there is still nothing. I'm not sure what the problem is. Is there brushes on a starter motor? I'm hoping for the cheapest solution here cause this was not the only issue on this trip.... yes there was more.... back right tyre blow out !!! One Bridgestone Dueller in its glory..... but wait there's more... when I checked that the jack, wheel choke and wheel spanner and the goodie to crank the jack up was all there, which it was.... but not the other #@%$*&@# attachment that fits onto the jack to turn the little "eye" screw/bolt thingy. So lifting the Maidens "dress" to put a new "leg" on was NOT a fun task. I feel like such an idiot as I looked if it was all there, but never took it out and tried top lift the patrol prior to leaving on the trip...... well.... leason learnt. Does anyone have one of those things lying around spare???

But all is good.... ate crayfish, calamari, kapkap (havent got a clue what fish that is, but looks similar to a king fish) and oh yes.... not to mention the prawns, delicatly washed down with a few 2M's, and a good load of Rhum Tipo Tinto......

I'll post a few pics as soon as I've downloaded them off the camera.

This is probably a silly question...but did you look under the passenger seats? That long hook extension that fits onto the jack is kept under there.

:rolling: ....ummmmm....no...... :rolling: .... I didn't think of that, the wheel spanner and the other shaft thingy is in a bag in the compartment with the jack. And its funny you say that, cause after swearing and using all 11 official languages.... plus some sign language, after changing the tyre, I still said to my wife.... "hmmm... remember in the SANI, all the jack goodies was under the rear seats." WWW I'll check tonight. I know there is a CD shuttle under the passenger seat, but never noticed anything else.
