Load Bars

Just received these load bars from Frontrunner
The feet arrived no problem, but the actual bars are lost in transit somewhere between joeys and durbs
anyway that's another problem...

Is it worth putting something like neoprene tape, or flexible epoxy (http://www.pratleyadhesives.com/diy-adh ... y-wondafix) on the parts where it connects to the gutter?
I am not a huge fan of metal compressing directly to metal, purely from a scratching point of view
I do not plan of having the bars attached permanently, and to be able to adjust how far apart they are would be useful to me also

I'm leaning towards the pratleys epoxy at the moment - any words of wisdom?

I used rubber U-channel from pro-auto rubber, it worked well.

my plan is to let the epoxy dry completely on the load bar feet first, so that it is a permanent part of them
ill have a look for some rubber options

I have only one concern with the Wandafix method, and that is that it might be difficult to get the "lining thickness" the same for all the feet.

Whether or not that is a problem will depend largely on what you put on the bars, but it's probably not and it may in my view be the best approach of the mentioned options.

according to frontrunner, they do not rubberise the contact areas of the feet because rubber deteriorates over time, leading to loose racks/bars, and potential damage/injury

I just checked on my fitted frontrunner rack - I see its metal on metal (and scratches where is been moved at somepoint)

I'm a master procrastinator, some call it OCD perfectionist, and I've delayed fitting my roof rack for nearly two years because of indecision about this very thing being discussed here. I've considered guestimating where the feet will sit and then taping off the spots and building up a couple of layers of tectyl in those spots for the feet to bed down into.

this is the solution, for now
i'll silicone the rubbers to the feet, then they won't get lost when the bars are being stored

i'll also check the rubbers each time i install them - i have 2m of the rubber profile, so replacing should be simple, when necessary

having thought about the birdsh*t-looking possiblity of the Wonda-Fix - it's a light cream colour when its dry - i reconsidered that as my first option
