Re: Iron Maiden DIED !!!! ...burnt hole in the piston
Thanks guys....
Russ, I appreciate the compliment, but.... its not balls.....but bucks..... Nissan would bankrupt me to do this, and I'm a bit of a curiosity killed the cat kind of guy, so if it can come out, it can go back. And at least now I will be confident in my mind that inside that motor EVERYTHING will be perfect. The semi finished sleeves will be machined and matched up to the pistons. The pistons are 100% correct for the job. The bearings will all be new. New clean anti-freeze, oil related issues will all be perfect.
I'll take loads of pics now that everything is clean. When stripping there was oil..... EVERYWHERE !!!.... well I did use 15 litres to drive back from Botswana. My poor phone cam looked like an old oil rag after 15 mins of stripping, and I power washed the motor before I started stripping!!!
I've asked SWAMBO to get 2 EGT probes and 2 CHT ones to make sure that side is done correctly. There was a probe pre turbo and one that had broken off situated post turbo. I want to know where is the best place to put the CHT probe/washer thingy. Any suggestions?
Dave....ha ha...I'ma gonna ride that Maiden like a banshee !!!..... BTW... check the post from me on "concerns about a 4.2 motor" regarding the leaky pipe from the turbo to the sump

Re: Iron Maiden DIED !!!! ...burnt hole in the piston
Ok .... this may be a stupid question.... Does the 4.2 diesel have an AFM (air flow meter)??. If so, where is the donderse thing, cause unless I unplugged it without realising it, I cannot recall seeing one.

Re: Iron Maiden DIED !!!! ...burnt hole in the piston
Cedric,
Man you do have guts....and balls.....or you are most probably just one of those guys that is not scared of anything!!!
WOW - I think it is incredable what you have done here - and is still busy doing - I really take my hat off to you - well done
I drove to Frans last night (late yesterday afternoon) to adjust the fanbelt on a vw beetle engine for me purely because I was scared I might stuff it up trying to do it myself!!
And this was after Frans visited me Saturday night and explained in detail how to do it.
And then when he did it it was really so simple I honestly felt like a fool driving away from his house - not even a 3 minute job - its that simple.
I have been following your story religiously - and most times when me and Frans sees each other we end up discussing your project - and what you set out to do all by yourself. I will never do that on my own - haven't got the guts!!! And everything is being communicated and explained via this forum - it is really amazing.
Good luck and best wishes with the rest of your project - can't wait to hear and read that the Iron Maiden is roaring again.
Regards

Re: Iron Maiden DIED !!!! ...burnt hole in the piston
Thanks guys !!,
Well thats why I joined this forum months before actually buying my first Patrol. As I said before, If it wasn't for the fact that there are people.... no not people..... FRIENDS here that know a shhhhload more than me, I doubt I would have tackled this job on my own. Modern technology is fantastic. If there is a problem, with a photo and a description and a little time, the answer appears right in front of you ....on the PC screen. And if there is still a little confusion, there is always a telephone.
This whole experience has made me very proud to be a Patrol forum member and a Patrol owner.... yeah there are people that say that Landy's and Toys are better..... so what... my/our Patrol is the BEST.... and the people on the forum here show great camaraderie and what it is to be a fantastic fellow human being. What more can any man ask for......
