Let's talk spotlights

I am starting to look for a set of spots for my Patrol. With so many options available, and with the price tag that come with some of them lets see and hear what you have, what work for you, if not what you would replace it with.

What is also at the back of my mind is the impact, if any, the size of spots will have on airflow into the radiator, especially with the TD4.2T ??

I have always wanted a pair of Stedi Type X spots for mine! The look fantastic and have great reviews in Australia. Bit pricey but they are currently on special for 20% off and they are also a bit on the big side so airflow may be something to think about. They also offer a few light bars that are dual focused. The middle lenses are spots and they give straight ahead distance while the outer lenses are set up as flood lights so you get a good spread out to the edges of the road. The bar would be better for airflow but you may encounter issues with the Law

They claim that the Type-X PRO LED Driving lights give a throw of 1,15km

Looks like a decent light, but as you said, a bit expensive... or am i out of touch with prices, which is possible

I got myself some off-road 4x4 work lights (the make is off-road 4x4), not really big, but its legal and it does the job (The TJM front bumper kinda removed my fog lights). I don't like driving at night (Im blind as a bat when the sun goes down), so its just to assist if I do find myself behind a wheel after dark

I’d be hesitant to put spots on a td42, BUT, this is just my uneducated feelings on it.
I’m sure the more experienced will have better advice

I saw a review on youtube and the throw distance was amazing ! 5 year limited warranty also. I guess you pay for quality LEDs and quality lenses... They also offer a LED (i think it was LED) headlight conversion which seems to be a plug and play system with little fuss involved, I was also looking at those, the standard headlights aren't terrible but could be better. It's supposed to just plug in place of your orriginal bulb and uses the same adjusters for pitch ect.

I wonder of one would get away under the laws with fitting two of these:

Light bars make me nervous, you get some cops which understand the law and can be fair but the majority dont really know what's what and that will get my nerves going at each roadblock.. last thing you need at the start of your holiday is someone trying to confiscate your lights. Just my thoughts, I'm sure the guys who are running a bar will be able to comment better for or against.

I got a set of Kings 9inch led spotlights from a mate in Australia. Came with wiring harness and relays. Haven't had any problems with overheating at all and they give a long wide throw so you can see a few hundred meters ahead and quite a few meters to the side of the road for those unexpected night walker's.

I have seen the LED conversion kits, something to consider as well.

Re light bars, I have the same concern, you just need that one guy with a badge to ruin your day...

Nice setup, but they look huge, taking up quite a lot of space before the radiator... may not impact the 4.5 but think it may be different in front of the TD4.2....

I am hoping somebody finds an even smaller set.

I am looking for something that can fit under the headlights of the GQ. Maximum height to fit where I want it to fit is 100mm, max depth probably 65mm and max length less than 200...

Anybody know where such lights might be found?
