A 9500 winch should be fine - I have the T-Max 12500 on my Patrol. A dual battery will be nice especialy if you have a freezer as well.

eisjjj - ek weet ek het geantwword - but for some obscure reason my post 'vanished'
Chris - fuel in Nigria is readily available - ALWAYS keep track on th enews for strikes and harbour delays [if you are on "petrol" you should be OK most anywhere - Diesel in teh smaller places will invariably be contaminated with "shop oil" [Safest Diesel is the TOTAL outlets]
Where you gonna be? Lagos? Port Harcourt? Oh - and do darken & smash protect your windows beforehand.
When in Nigria - make sure you have every license and permit required always in your car.
NEVER open your window more than 2 - 3inches if you are stopped by "police" [sometimes the phony ones wear uniform and the real ones ar in tatty clothes. Dont worry if they cock their AK's repeatedly [that means the demmitse thing is empty anyway]
Pay attention to all traffic signs (including u-turns) ALWAYS waer your safetybelt.
Dont be affraid to squeeze in or overtake - make much use of your horn [hooter / tooter/ Have ia LOUD one fitted]
NEVER EVER EVER hand over any of you documenst [keep copies of - including your drivers license - show the real ones and only hand over copies]
Dont carry large amount of cash in your wallet - not more than 10thousend Nira - the rest you keep in pockets.
If you are stopped on a Friday by a policeman clad in black and he says to you "Happy weekend sir" - greet him with teh same and pass him 500 Nira [about R25 .....]

GENIET jou Patrollie

Oompie would seriously suggest you get a "driver" [shaufeur??] It is best if the driver is Yoruba [most common af the 511 languages of Nigria .. though only 500 still exist]
Die "taxi" is 'OKADA" [klein motorfietsies, 125cc - daar is 2-miljoen in Lagos]

eisjj - semantics Bru .. I mean that film they stick on the side windows to protect against "smash & grab" [kom jy nooit weer in Gauteng nie?]

You will probably stay on Victoria Island [referred to as V I [wie-aai] either in LEKI or BANANA Island ... Banana is the nicest [and newest] and nearest to the business section.

and no - we dont live there any more, dwergie was transferred to "International" and their offices are in Pta.. me? I'm retired
let me know when you get there - I'll put uyou in contact with the other expats from SA still living there.

I can guarantee you that neither the 4.2 nor the 4.8 will be able to outrun an AK-47 bullet....

Follow Kagiso's rules....they apply for for the majority of West and Central Africa....I've never been to Nigeria, but I've done most of the other armpits in that region. The water one is the VERY important...unless you like to lie in the bath using the shower to wash away the foam coming out both ends....

Hi All,
Arrived in Lagos last week and has started work yesterday ! My nissan is still on the high seas with an ETA of Oct 8 - expecting it to be "stuck" in the port for 2-3 weeks

So far the my experiences in Nigeria has been good, found a house, got places for the kids in school ( 4 pcs) and didn't get mugged

I hope to hook up with likeminded people as it looks like adventures into the bush / game parks here has to be done in a convoy with police / armed security.

The Yankari Nat Parks with hot springs looks like a must for the Eid holidays....

Let me know, if you know anyone in Lagos that may be up of a few trips to the outback or a weekend trip to the beach.
Cheers,
Chris
PS: Off to british club this week for a bingo night
May the torque be with you
